Why is it installed in a temp location? I'm pretty sure they have strict permission rules.
I might suggest uninstalling DarkSpace and installing it to a more normal location.

Best to follow This advice, uninstall. check the origine directory (should be C:\\GameCQ\\) if it still exists delete this one to.
And run the freshly downloaded 'DarkSpace.exe' Installer 'as Administrator'.

Yeah im getting this same issue followed all the staffs advice down to the letter and it just will not work i guess i wont be coming back after all
this issue just will not stop i have done everything i can on my end so i guess i will wait somemore

You need to uninstall (completely).
Install the Virtual Studio 2005 Redistribution package.
Install the current DS installer.

- Use free uninstallers to uninstall Darkspace completely. Some of them are Revo Uninstaller, Total Uninstall, Advanced Uninstaller PRO, IObit Uninstaller. They do all the job for you in their advance mode.
- Besides, just set up the .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 (Full Package) and you won't have to install anything more to run DS or many others programme.
- Accomplish 2 steps above before reinstall DarkSpace 1.673

Or, do what I do:
Uninstall DS via windows, then go to the DS folder, select all, delete.

I got the DS up and running on windows 7 -when i switched install path to original program files/ folder on C:

About a week or so ago I reinstalled DS. I found that the newest posted version of the client would install, but would fail to actually make it to the lobby. I uninstalled and reinstalled serveral (3?) times, using different mirrors and restarted my computer between each attempt, just incase that would help. On what I think was my 4th attempt I downloaded an older version of the client from a different mirror. It worked perfect the first try.
Long story short: Try downloading a different game version if your having problems.
Have those links been updated in the last week or so? Are they actually tested before they're posted?
EDIT:[i] According to my computer, DS was installed on 10/10/2012...

i thought the vredst.exe file was called vcredst.exe.msi and we had to manually delete the .msi extension to be able to run the update...
if a frssh download of darkspace wont install, its cause u havent rebooted ur pc after uninstalling darkspace, and havent rebooted after reinstalling visual basis package, or u dont have admin rights set for all exe's, or u didnt see the windows pop under message asking for permission to continue (doesnt always pop up). thats what i'd try first.
else, try a different installer. the faustus mirror always seems to work well...
also wth is the c:/trunk/work folder? lol it gets send in error reports but isnt actually on my pc...
