I’ve lost my account now, but used to go by Painfulangel.
I played this game as a kid, I always tried to pretend I was an adult because I thought everyone was cool. I remember always racing to my laptop to play Darkspace. I still remember when I got my first dreadnaught. Man, I felt so badass.
But now I’m all grown up. Was just thinking about this game, would be nice to play with everyone again. But I’d have to start from scratch and I don’t know if I have that time to grind for all the ship access again…

I totally forget about the game. still have it installed of course but yea... really SHOULD play more of this game. I just miss the massive servers they used to have with enough resources to allow you to travel WAY outside them and not have a border between each system

Amazing this game still exists 20 years later.
I was playing another game, DREADNOUGHT, for a few years. It's somewhat similar in terms of combat gameplay as Darkspace, but with updated graphics.

Only thing is that it lacks the depth of DS. Just a round based World of Warships in space type 3rd person tactical command shooter. No Fleet or Planet management. No strategic depth.
In terms of depth of gameplay, this game here still has many other newer games beat.
Just needs a major studio with major moolah to pickup the concept and redo the entire engine. Who doesn't like a live, persistent battlefield?
I really hope to see someone do a Darkspace II one day. One can only dream.....
But for now I've quit both DS and even Dreadnought.
