Only two days after having promised UGTO citizens security through naval protection, Grand Chancellor Mato is once again put under renewed pressure as pirates threaten civilian traffic.

After a prolonged absence of illicit naval activity within UGTO-held space, stellar piracy is once again on the rise as several outlaw vessels were spotted within the Cincinnati system earlier today.

At least three vessels, including a destroyer, blockaded the already-seriously-shaken worlds of Blue Ball and Little Heaven, demanding control of both governments in return for granting safe passage to civilian ships.

In a show of force, they destroyed one freighter carrying humanitarian aid to the worlds' recent casualties. All ninety-seven hands were lost.

As a mixed blessing for the residents of the system's numerous planets, a K'luth patrol swiftly dispatched the murderers, albeit along with at least eight more unarmed UGTO liners. Estimates of the number of dead run into the mid-hundreds.

The events today prompted outrage from senators, accusing Mato of being unable to back-up his decrees for "Security that the other factions are incapable of offering...".

Senator Rilana Samuels of Puck had this to say:

"This is an absolute disgrace! We, as the people of the UGTO, cannot, and will not stand for this! We deserve better than an impotent navy that cannot even defend its worlds from brigands, and we deserve better than a weak leader who makes empty promises!"

It has since been learned that Samuels may have been involved in a bribe with the Farstars to leak sensitive information about the defenses of Puck and three other Uranian moons. She has been arrested and suspended as s senator pending an investigation.

Nature of "Mystery Ship" revealed

As one development unfurls, another is brought to an close. The so-called K'luth "Mystery Station" captured earlier this week in Barnard's Star has since been revealed to be of pirate origin.

A statement from Grand Admiral Shig R. Nafy read:

"...I don't know what all the fuss was about, this contraption was simply some two-bit criminal's attempt at a viable battleship. It's nowhere near capable of hurting anything we have. It can barely move under its own power without threatening to break up, so poorly was it cobbled together. In any case, we've destroyed the rubbish in a controlled explosion. I hope we can clear this up now. Thank-you, that will be all."

No doubt this little escapade will be the fuel of conspiracy theories for years to come.
