I don't care how long it takes, I'll always be here, and I'll be here till the bitter end in a year or 10...

Just to clarify Kailii....
Your somewhat correct, but incorrect on somethings...
I plan to implement a new socket class using, UDP, which allows me to implement my own layer to guarantee transmission of data accross the internet. Currently, we rely on windows implementation of TCP/IP streams to get data to and from the servers, of which we have no control (such as how long to wait before requesting a resend). TCP/IP streams are basically using UDP packets as well, they just have code written to make sure all the data gets from one location to the other.
Anyway, the communications code will be a combination of TCP and UDP ... data that we can lose, will be sent UDP with no attempts to make sure it gets to it's destination... most of our data will need to be guarenteed however, but using UDP we will still make sure it gets to it's destination.

Faustus...if data is running on several lines will there be a problem corrilating it all back to us on the far end?

not really... well as long as you dont use Window$ firewall I belive it will be configurable.
Ummm but we WILL nead the ports used so some firewall owners can set access rules.

This code change will not affect firewalls... unless, they are blocking UDP, but allowing TCP streams...
We will most likely still use a TCP stream, but only as a control channel... the actual game data will be sent via UDP.

Well that's good... But Will the UDP protocol nead the exact IP adress?(I mean will there be trouble for routers)
Althrou it might be corrected by adding a fowarding of a small port range(well at least on Linksys routers)...
@Meko
heh yes lets steal EvE's playerbase... anyway its not like DS's battle system is as boring
