I have a proposal to make: I suggest that each faction has one flagship class of ship that would be like a center of fleet ops, ect...it would be able to reload allies nearby, provide cover fire with the same armaments as a supply station, would be the size of a station, and would have a max speed of 10 gu....i believe that the ghostknife class ugto dread would server as a very good flagship and that this could prove a solution to the problems of fleetless, uncoordinated manuevers. http://beta.darkspace.net/index.htm?module=forums.php&page=/viewtopic.php?topic=34903&forum=5&34 This is the ship i believe would work the ugto flagship.....oh and there can only be one flagship at a time on a faction or clan whichever u prefer, and u cannot keep the vessel in ur garage....once u use the sy ur abandoning the use of the vessel and another person can take control of it. The ship would have 4 reloads, same armor plating shields ect… as a supply station (FA station), and it would also have 8 fighter bays….The ship, once destroyed, would make the same explosions as the stations, as this may go without saying, but just to make sure The flagships would also have a ……unique ability…..like a armor regen thing or something like that, which would provide a special benefit of having one of the ships oin the field….im still trying to work out the bugs and such….so ill finish the idea later tommorow

I'm all for more ships and new models. Just need to get into specifics. I would mostly likely give it a decent array of weapons.
- 3 to 4 Reloads
- 1 Build
- Decent amount of fighters
- 10+ Missile Slots
- 18+ Cannon/Beam slots
Just throwing ideas out there, could probably use adjustments, feel free to make your own points.

The now nicknamed "Assault ships" used to be the flag ships, and I liked it that way...

This idea, simply would not work.
Simply for the fact, that there is no true 'strategic value' of a Flagship.
Not without making it overly uber - and by doing that you only cause anyone who gets it to never leave it if he/she can.
The only real thing I can see for a Flagship is a more of a symbol of power rather than actually a ship worth using.
Sure, you have a powerful ship...but the question is, what balances out its power? What makes it truely better than any ship of less class other than that it has more modules? What would be its role besides spacebar mashing?
Take into account that a Flagship really isn't neccessary at all - unless you ljust want to bear the name of it. =P

Flagship idea's sound "ok" but as said, they would be little more than "Uber Dreads".
Maybe a ship class with a purpose that when in a system, all ships within say 10,000gu got bonuses. Increased Energy, Shield/Armour HP stuff like that.
Dont make it an uber kill it all thingy that someones just gonna hog all day. Make it a Command ship of sorts, heavily armoured but light offensive weaponry.

They need to have:
- Ten repair bays
- At least 15 engines
- 20 aux power gens
- 20 high beams (up close damage)
- 20 low beams (point defense)
- a bunch of torps, to keep things away at mid range
- missiles for long range attacks
- two construction bays, so you can build a planet twice as fast
- eight layers of armor on each facing, plus eight fulls
- be as big as a station but as nimble as a scout
- 45 tractor beams with auto-targetting the nearest sun, so you can push ships into it
- level 99 everything
- everything full mount
- ability to spawn Gaifen
That's a flagship. Anything else is just lame.

If they allow a uber ship like that the person flying it better loose some UBER prestige if it gets blown up.
IMO I think the ship will ruin the game if its half as powerful as suggested.

Would be just the same as what happened with the PD/ED if the player is obligated to use it, they will always use it. Wars would just be flag ship vs flag ship for people who could use it.

I sort of like this dea, about having Flagships, but everyone has a point about how they would be used. I think players who could get the ship proposed originally would always get it, and I also agree with the notion that they shouldn't just be uber-powered Dreadnaughts.
My idea of a Flagship would be a heavily armored, but lightly armored, slightly larger than a Dreadnaught, with a model of either the UGTO Elite Assault Dreadnaught (For UGTO) The ICC, the model of the Command Dreadnaught, and for K'luth, the model of the K'luth Mandabile-class Dreadnaught, maybe decorated a bit. Only one may be active per faction, and only by a Grand Admiral.
As said, I think they should be heavily armored but lightly armed, though with reloads, builds, and maybe another combat bonus.
Anyways, I don't think that these ships will be implemented anyways, so heh.
