I'm sure this is expected since I don't think you changed the network code but I'm still getting 10-30 sec lag in battle. I still go from 100% hull and armor/shields to death without seeing a single enemy (other than if I jump in in which case most enemies don't move much or fire at me).

| The one that just got optimized to the best possible.
Only one thing F currently is looking at would be ASIO Boost. But that would take some time.
We got 7 constellations in the MetaVerse and we have one Scenario.
Each constellation holds a good 5 star systems. The average planet count i would say 50 planets and it would have around 40 AI.
Scenario has like whut? between 8 and 12 planets and 12 AI?
Just looking at this makes it clearly to me that scenario would be more stable to play at. But it isn't persistent so it is bound to be boring at times.
But for the moment, we are aware and are trying to find the particular issue that strikes the MV with the Lag.
Improvements are expected in "Two Weeks™" [ This Message was edited by: Eledore Massis [R33] on 2010-11-05 14:27 ]

Ok I'll post here because one of my threads was deleted for an unspecified reason.
I'm getting 20-30 seconds of lag where nothing happens. Not where my frame rate stops, but everything around me stops. After about 10-30 seconds everyone will go super speed to catch up to their real position, but shortly after the process will repeat itself.
Things I've tried to fix it:
Disabled UDP, Disabled HDR, Disabled Bloom, updated all my various drivers from video, sound, motherboard, and LAN drivers. Also tried the /focus command Faustus recommended and tried 2000, and even lower without success.
System Specs
Core 2 Duo 3.1ghz
8gb ram
Radeon HD 4870
Connection
22 megabit down
1 megabit up
Anyone find something that works?

So I turned off anti aliasing and vertical sync and it seems to be working for me so far. About 20 mins of play so far without my symptoms described earlier.

There is no way this is correct. Not even LAN's are capable of 22GBit either way.

Ok, just an update, the lag issues were much better lately (was about 250-300 ms ping), this last update though seems to have regressed something. I'm back to having 16 second ping in combat only! Last playable version was 1.620. Nothing in my config (in original post) has changed except I've updated all my drivers (which worked fine in 1.620)

Unless you have enabled Multi-core support in DarkSpace Setup there is nothing we have changed that would have effected your latency. In the case it has increased, I would check with your ISP, as the issue may lie on their end, or in some remote cases, the issue could lie between our ISP and yours, in which case there is nothing we can do about it.

Ah, I did enable multi-core support. Maybe that's it. I'll try disable it

Yeah, I think it was the multi-core I think. Just played for 2 mins with it disabled and it is fixed I think

A lot of multi-core processors have issues with high performance counters (what all games use to keep timing between the server and client accurate). Unfortunately, since DarkSpace was created almost 10 years ago, our client is not very modular.
We can allow helper threads to process data for the main thread, but this throws the game WAY out of sync at times due to the counter being different on each core for some processors (the game has NO idea what's going on, and as far as its concerned, you're going back and forth in time).
Until a time when Faustus wants to recode the entire graphics engine to run on a seperate thread, this feature is for those of you who have a processor which syncs TSC's across all cores.

had people bothered to read the dev log you would notice a section in the dev log about multi cores before this hit latest topics.
try reading it before posting it may help you with your posts a lot better.
who knows something may have been changed that is directly related to your problem.
and people wonder why i do not post problems in relation to my computer system at all.
