As the only licensed tax attorney and certified CPA around these parts, I say you ought to ignore them. What is the statue of limitations for tax evasion? 7 years? If they want you that bad, make them come get you.*
*Full disclosure: Some, likely all of this may be untrue or falsified.

I had a letter from the IRS saying they wanted to audit me a few years back. While most people panick, I laughed and tossed it in the trash. They sent another. I did the same. And another. And another.
In the end, it was some income I earned while working contract labor that attracted their attention. They sent me a letter saying I owed some forgettable amount, and that I was to respond within somesuch time.
I threw that one away laughing as well.
They never got their audit, but they kept my next tax return and part of the next one as well. Big deal I said. I never acknowledged any authority over me from the IRS, and I still do not.
So while I did end up giving (so to speak) some money to them, I refused to go in, get all my finances picked thru by some 10-key punching geek who feels he has some power. I refused, successfully, to allow them to intimidate me.
***edit to avoid an excuse for stupidity***
My advice is this: if you owe them nothing, and you really feel you are right, ignore them till you cann't. When/if they turn up the heat, maybe it would be time to get a lawyer. Many will work for little to nothing to help vets and active duty military. But above all, draw a line in the sand and stand it.
In my case, I did in fact "owe" them for the contract labor (all tax legallity arguements aside) so they got their cash, and I got my peace. It was a few hundred bucks, but worth my peace.
As far as state tax, I couldn't help you there. I live in the United State of Texas, where we do not see a need to tax our citizen's income. However I understand we are going to be barring anyone from New England or California from settling here soon, so I suggest anyone seeking freedom, make their break now.

Yeah those Tea Parties would have been great, if it wasn't the most partisan, politically charged thing I've ever seen.

I know where Doran lives. Will sell information to highest bidder.
In all seriousness, just disregard it Leo. I lived in Cali for a fair bit of time, and I never heard of that.
