Yes, I've not yet come across another game of this scale that keeps track of each and every projectile in realtime from the instant it's fired to the point it either reaches it's max range or impacts something.
I do know of another semi-MMO space combat sim that does, but the graphics are vastly different (3d models, but no camera rotation so it's a fixed "overhead" view) and everything is run in instances with small player limits.

You mean SGE? But anyway, there is 1 single game that does what DS does, Star Sonata. It tracks projectiles in realtime, no dice rolling involved other then with weapons that have random firing arcs, and it does it for thosands of players, plus running thosands of drones and stations(basically plats and planets) and thosands of ai, in realtime. How? I have no clue, that load should literally melt even those top of the line 8 core servers.

That's a 2d web-based game, and extremely instanced... There is absolutely no comparison between what is basically an instanced flash game, and DarkSpace. You'll find more in common with Battlefield 2 than that.

No, I was thinking of Armada Online, but that's got less to keep track of since there's no FF.
