One of my most favourite games ever, for the setting, the game mechanics... basically everything.
Can't take out that enemy cruiser because it's in the middle of an enemy defence network?
Take a reeeeallly long run-up and blaze in at 100km/s, unload all of your weapons in a single apocalyptic barrage, and whizz off into the distance before anyone has a chance to say "wha-?"
...Or slam into a solid object and die because there's no way you're going to correct your course in time.

Sounds like a scene from that book Star Carrier.

Yes but if what your saying is right then how do astronoughts toss around 12 ton Satiltes with one arm?
Leds you to the first part of what Attack said

They dont
First of all, funny enough is the fact that the robot arms like Canadarm have a mass limit they can "carry", if you are carrying/pushing/tossing too much, it's bad for the joints. Second, you couldn't get anything reliable to the speed it's supposed to have, think about throwing a ball: You can give a typical 200g ball, let's say a speed of 100 km/h -> roughly 28 m/s. Now, the things astronauts are actually launching by hand would be at most 50 kg, and since their arms are the same length and their muscles are just as good, they can give them (very roughly calculated in my head only) 0,6 m/s difference in speed.

If it had enough thrust to achieve the same linear accelerations as the corvette, sure. It'd just turn everything inside the dread into liquid paste from the g forces being pulled.

that would be an awful way to die XD

Why would the people get melted? There is no difference, if I am using a 5 MN engine, on a 3 ton ship or a 5 GN engine on a 3000 ton ship. It's like saying that the people in planes melt because its engines are so strong compared to my bike. (Not the best comparison, but if my bike had the planes engine power and still it's original weight even with the turbines, I would liquify)

Must've been that prototype dread; the precursor to current day dreads. I think it was called the BL3n-D3r. Choppy ride, but a fine crew. No coarse parts.
Must've been one hell of a ride.

Well i could go into graphic detail on the blood rupturing capillaries throughout the body causing massive internal bleeding and stroke... and thats at 'only' 15g. Imagine at 500g or more when the human body would collapse under its massively increased mass .
( so if you weigh 80 kilos, at 500g you would weigh 4(0) tons)

80x500 is 40,000kg or 40tons....not 4.

there is a small difference between "melting" and being turned into some kind of paste by being smashed into a wall with like... 500 g

Mmm, not entirely comprehending why people think crews will die horribly on larger ships.
If you have a 1 tonne ship that accelerates at 1G, the crew will experience (surprise, surprise) 1G of weight, the same as Earth. No dying there.
If you have a 1,000,000,000-tonne ship that accelerates at 1G, in spite of the fact that the engines are a billion times more powerful the crew will still, amazingly, experience 1G of weight and thus won't die.
A ship that accelerates at 100G would most likely kill everyone on board and discover that the engines punch their way out of the nose of the ship due to the insane forces involved, regardless of its mass. Ships that kill everyone on board are known variously as "deathtraps", "lemons", and "fire the design staff".
The simple solution to people dying aboard your warships due to G-forces is to remove some of the engines.

And a lot of people who posted in this thread should do so right now (hopefully)

To get high accelerations we would have to find a way to negate the enormous amounts of g-forces so the crew could survive high accelerations and insane manoeuvres.
Find a way to send 500g forces in the other direction to neutralise the worst effects.

A good idea about ship propulsion would be to fit reverse gears on ships....
Even with limited speed, say -3 or -5.

I would also propose adding a differential lock, so I can get over rough terrain.
