ok, i lost my windows yesterday and being that i have no windows cd i was forced to install linux. I understand the game doesnt support Linux so pls dont tell me that, this post is simply to ask for suggestions from others who have successfully installed, or have tried to install darkspace using Wine on a Red Hat Linux system. I can get the darkspace installation screen to come up, but after that it freezes. Itll probably be awhile before I can get windows back.. and I dont think I can go on living without this game :T

So please, if you have any suggestions let me know, they'll be much appreciated. Thanks

I would really be interested to know myself, as the only reason I have windows on this computer is too play DS.
I can get most games running under winex, and DS will show the startup screen, do the client update, and give me the login screen, but then it crashes.
I think it has to do something with GCQL being alomst pure internet explorer, as stated here: http://www.palestar.com/gamecq.htm

Yes, there are command line options for client.exe..

Client.exe [Address] [Port] [SessionID]

You can get your sessionId by logining into the website, then copy that number after the "sid=", thats your sessionId.

I think the proxy server for the MV is running at address "phobos.palestar.com" on port 9300.

Are there any plans for a *NIX version of DS? And how's the BSD port coming.
I'd love to help to make the client multiplatform, but unfortunately right now all my C knowledge adds up to printf ("Hello world"); so that's not much use

Heheh... as it is now, the only game I play now is DS and my PC has in fact become a DS console The only other thing I do with it is check my e-mail, and watch some movies every once in a while... I have XP Pro and Mandrake 9.0 installed.

A Linux client for DS would be great if it can be developed and a nice addition to the Linux comunity

It has been a few years since I've worked with Wine but I am almost positive that there was no DirectX support back then. I can't see how that would change but I've been wrong before..... once.

Anyone else have different information? If so I will give it a try.

Well... WineX has DirectX support (OpenGL) but to get that you'll need to pay a subscription fee ($5,- a month)
Wine itself has no 3D support. But it may sill work there...
