I keep getting the "failed to initial display" message with voodoo banshee. So I have to buy a new card now if I want to play?

Look in DxDiag and click the Display tab and see if Direct 3d and AGP acc. is enabled.

forget banshee's
buying a new VC is highly recommanded 
this card is always a trouble maker
(done a lot of beta testing games)
buggy and sloooooooow
note that I have no idea if or if not banshees work in gernal with DS
that's just a very general observation about that old thing
