Pondering. If missiles had hit points, than beams would track the missile and damage it until the missile explodes, which under the new system would cause the beam to turn off.

That would be much neater than .1 second duration beams hitting missiles, which is what we have now.

According to the code every single object, including every single projectile object (not just missiles) has some level of hit points.

Stars, planets, and jumpgates are the only objects that are exempt from this rule.

So, technically this is possible.

We would have to concider the overall effect this would have on point defense vs planets, and planet point defense vs bombs, very carefully first.

Well, I saw it due to some special circumstances that'd take a long time to go into, and probably involved lag, and it looked pretty damn cool.

I'm not speaking of, even, (though it'd be nice for PCMs), hit points enough to require more than a single beam shot to destroy it. That's a balance suggesiton.

Just enough hit points so that the beam tracks the missile for about a second.

It looks cool, seriously.

Erm its planet bases items right?
why not increase theyr damage level a bit.
I seems they can put a lot bigger laser on a planet than on a ship
