I haven't self-destructed for nearly a year.
Even when I'm at 5% hull and all my systems are offline, I still try to repair the jumpdrive and get the hell out of there. Many times, I've actually managed to escape destruction.
The only time I would EVER self-destruct would be if my ship were boarded and I knew she would be captured shortly.
Anytime else is just cowardice, in my mind.

I like people who SD at 100% hull, it effectively removes them from the field of battle, diminishes their teammates effectiveness, and allows us to focus on fewer enemies, thereby guarranteeing us the victory in the battle...
So please, continue to blow yourselves up at the slightest whim and ruin any chance that your team has of winning

there is 1 main reason human ship fliers SD the most
and that is autorepair as it stands human ships dont repaier there systems fast enough at all, they erpair 1 system at a times, even a station repaires 1 system at a time if not aided by reloads
thats why i want a different system for repaiering systems
scout 1 system at a time
friget 1 system but alittle faster
destoryer 2 systems
crusier 2 systems alittle faster
dread 3 systems
station 4 systems
ps the reason i say 4 systems is that most stations have almost 32 systems ont here ship

Yeah but there is no fun in winning that way.
I do understand that people might be impressed by the power of the ICC but thats no reason to do our job for us. :/

Sding, umm i don't see that mutch. I myself usaly SD when I lag to death, getting pounded by planet defence, or in a last attemp to do a kamekaze attack, or to go down with the enemy. Well Since SD DOES dammage, it can be used to gain legit prestege(if there's a nmy nead the explosion). I say keep it.

I just came out of a battle where I had one specific individual SD four times, each time right before I killed him. I would likely have over a hundred kills by now, were it not for this.
Yeah, it's not a problem at all.

Update #2:
Fought a battle today. Scored 13 kills. Would have scored 31 more if it weren't for people self-destructing. 31 separate instances of people dodging being killed by self-destructing. Almost none of the SD's were close enough to hit me, purely done out of malice.
I think I'll post an update like this every now and then until the SD issue is addressed.
edit: If it weren't for SD, I would have over two hundred kills by now, if not more.

Well, if it makes you feel better, I've never done it.
Can't speak for the other ten thousand around here, though...

I rarely SD...usually I only do it when IM attacked by multiple enemies and there in same or smaller ships, I see tactical properties in this, I hit them, I get seriosuly damaged, I SD and hurt them more, then my teamates move in and kill. Tactically brillant my dear watson!

Happens all the time now, in FA and MV. Its not very good sportsmanship, however what can you do about it. What u said above roughly describes whats been happening since I started playing back in September. Its also one of the reasons I ask more ppl for duels now, as its the only way to get a guaranteed fair and honorable kill.

Self-Destruct: A mechinism for causing ones self to be destroyed.
humm, from the sounds of it, the purpose of selfdestruct is, to be able to destory your self...
and hey... wait a minute! we are all captians of our own ships right? and we control everything on OUR ship right? We control our weapons. We control our thrusters. We control our jump drive. Why cant we control OUR self destruct?
If its bad to selfdestruct when being attacked, then when should you selfdestruct? When the person whos attacking says its ok?
Gee, mr. dread, Im about to die, may I self destruct?
No
How about now?
No
Now?
Nope
But my hull is getting really low
So?
Player has been destroyed by mr. dread.
WAIT A MINUTE? that doesnt seem right, if the enemy gets to control how I get to use the devices on my ship... they might as well control my weapons...
hey look at that, my IT missles dont want to fire, well I guess mr. dread needs to use all his lasers on my hull, and not my missles, fine by me
mr. dread, yeah i have to run to the bathroom, can you make sure my thrusters dont fire up, or else it might be harder for you to hit me, k thanks
-------
on another note; IF YOU CANT DESTROY MY SHIP BEFORE IT DETONATES, THEN YOU HAVENT DAMAGED ME ENOUGH TO COMPLAIN THAT IV SELF DESTRUCTED.
YOU CAPTIAN YOUR SHIP, ILL CAPTIAN MINE

I mentioned it earlier...the only thing making the game unbalanced is the auto repair, allowing kluths to come bakc to the battle within few minutes
Everything else could stay as it currently works, Kluth have a lot of weapons, but low hull and low defense, even the cl2k dessies could stay if they dont repair immediately once you hit them
