Wow, what a great string of positive replies. Congratulations on something truly rare, GTW. I really like your idea as well. I think it could be a great, strategic approach to capturing a planet.

I have one aesthetic suggestion to make, and one (don't kill me) criticism of an aspect of your idea.

1) Don't actually have the territories colored green. The last thing I want to see is DarkSpace planets becoming meshes of green and red, and taking away from the sense of planet capture. The colored territories, I think, will take away from the feeling that you are taking a real planet.

Rather than tint them, just do colored borders. Much easier, don't you think? You see a green line bordered by the outer red line. But no tinting. That way you still see the planet but also get the strategic feeling of your idea.

2) Criticism time... hehe, I get to ruin the winning streak. I do not like the 70%+ territory-and-enemy-inf-start-dying rule. Ever played the board game Risk? This flaw is a lot like Risk's greatest fundamental flaw. Both the rules of that game and the rules of this suggestion prevent a dying army from returning to power, because their death is controlled by predetermined, systematic rules, not real tactics (in Risk, you get less new men for the less territory you have, so if you're being beaten, you're... well, getting beaten). Enemy inf should be able to fight at full power until the last man dies.

[EDIT]
It appears I may have misread... if in your original post you intended to say that the infantry that are invading take damage while 70%+ of the planet belongs to the owner of the planet, that's great, and I agree with that. If that's the case.... neeevermind, no criticism.
[/EDIT]
