GCQL REALLY needs these changes/upgrades

  • Repeat the Exact same message 3 times and the game should automute you for 10 minutes.
An AutoMessage with an explination and a link to the RoC should apear.
If he does it 3 more times again he should be auto kicked.
  • Rename "Setup" to "Client Setup". Newbies do not understand that the "Client Setup" the game tells them to run when theres an error is the "Setup" button at the top.
Change any one of them to match
  • Vote To Mute - Most of the time when something happens Mods are not around. At times it can take up to 20 Minutes for a mod to Log on/Respond to a report.
These Mutes would end after 10 minutes.
The Vote runs for 30 seconds and whatever option has the most votes wins.
  • I heard Staff had list like the friends list. Give the players that same list.
That way we can actually see what staff members have better things todo then mute spammers

The Beta-Lobby has some anti-flooding functionality.

I could add that.

We're not in IRC here

The gameclient tells em to run the client setup. And "client setup" doesn't fit the "one word" button bars in GCQL.
Is that really such a problem so newbies are unable to associate "Client Setup" with the "Setup" button in the Lobby ?

You won't win a mute-vote with half of the users in the chatroom being afk.
I also see some abuse potential with that vote system.
Anyway, the anti-flooding system should take care of it.

Players are supposed to use /report instead of messaging staff members directly.

Well somehow youd think newbies would understand they are one and the same thing But a good amount of newbies actually come to chat because they cant find the "Client Setup" and when you tell them to run the Setup at the top some even tell you that they are looking for the "Client Setup" and not "Setup"

Note: They seem to generaly have problems with seeing those buttons
The "Play" Button must be great at playing Hide and Seek

Well if after 30 seconds 9 people voted then atleast 5 of those votes have to be "Yes Mute" for the vote to pass.
People who wouldnt have voted (Like AFK People) wouldnt be in vote count

Yeah but sending a message to the mod directly gives a much faster reponce time.

Client setup: I think adding a note to the errorbox that they can reach the client setup by clicking "setup" in the lobby / darkspace startup screen will be sufficient.

Which would mean that only people who participate in the vote would count.
From what I've seen lots of people don't do so because they either don't know or don't care. That way you'll most likely only get a few yes votes & no "no" votes per "mute this player ?". That gets us some great potential for abuse.
Also I think that concept doesn't fit the way things are handled here atm.
Finally: Implementing such a purely optional vote system (which needs to be resistant against abuse) needs too much changes/work to do atm.

And farming transports raises the "ships damaged" stat faster.

For the vote thing, here some ideas:

  • Tally people who were not in away status but did not vote as "no".
  • Do not include in the tally the originator of the vote, the target of the vote or away status people who do not vote.
  • Do not include mods/admins in the vote so they can "stay neutral" without affecting the results (although I suspect this tool would mostly be used when no mods were around).
  • Require a 60/40 or even 2/3 supermajority to mute.

I think these would make it so the vote mute only worked on really, really annoying people that had bothered most of the the lobby. There have been more than a few times this would have come in handy.

People who are not in away mode can be away just as easy any other.
Since simply using your computer with Ds in the background keeps you in normal mode.

So this automaticly means that all votes would end up as no and the entire system would be a waste of time
The system should only count the votes of those who actually voted.

Well we could all ignore them and let them spam all they want so the newbies that might have sticked with Ds also run away.

Barthezz I get upset if someone sending me direct reports, in fact I don't like it at all. Rather annoying and then I have to make a report...

USE the /report so that complaints are logged. WHY?
Because some of the Mods actualy go and read the report log. Just to see whathas happened in the last 24 hours. We can also look up potential problem players. Like what happened last nigth and today. It was in the log report which I know now. If I see or hear about this player doing it again. I can go ahead and automaticly kick the person. Don't need to pull him or her aside and just say don't do that. Also report lets ALL staff know what is going on. So nobody is left out of the infomation mill. So we kinda get an idea of things that have happened. Keeping us up to date. THAT is WHY we tel everyone SEND in a /report. That is such a valaible tool..

If you send personal ones, how will we know?

Well Sending a message to the Mod Directly Was When None of Mods Showed up when you report stuff.

Sending them a message directly actually gets their attention and makes them come.

LOL, yeah right barth... if they "ignore" a /report what would make them bother with a /send? LOL, it'll just make them want to ignore it more
