Need I say more?
Well yeah, but the way it would work is on that sliding bar that shows your current speed setting, at the half way ( or 2/3ds ) point instead of it being half of the max speed would be the 0.0/gu second speed setting, pushing it back farther would make oyur ship go backward.

You already have reverse thrusters. Other wise you wouldn't be able to come to a dead stop in space.
You just don't have reverse speed. Well some times have reverse speed when I am lagged to death and jumping backwards in time..

That'd probably end up with the "all weapons on the frontside" ships flying backwards all the time, fireing at another ship while dodging its weapons.

not if there was say a limit of 10gu going in reverse(unless ur in a station) i think a station should have like 0.5 gu revers thrust....

of course, just like in reverse in a car, only like... 1/5th total max speed?

Hmm love the idea but i do think that we would need a KEY that would level the thrust to 0.0Gu/s
Just like the S does in the starboard and port function
Now take a look at your keyboard and tell me what key would you use?

Going backwards while firing forward weapons isn't a bad idea. I remember using the very same tactic in a number of space flight games...
