Perhaps reverse thrusters/engines would be a good idea...they'd use up more energy, but would slow you down faster, and perhaps fight against a tractor beam

Also perhaps if you have different thrusts you turn faster, doesn't matter about your speeds...like 1/3 thrust for the best turning rate, 2/3 for slightly worse, but better than full speed.

reverse thrusters is a good idea, but in a different way than you think. Also, different levels of thrust already change rate of turn. If you test it out you'll notice. Whenever your flying full speed, if you turn while decreasing thrust, your turn radius is tighter than if you were to turn at full throttle. The more experienced players are well versed on this fact, thus the Veterans abilities to constantly out-maneuver the more novice players.

reverse-thusters would be rather entertaining if they had to properly applied- enacting them to quickly and powerfully and you'll be treated to seeing your ship explode [...killed by brash stupidity] as the inertial dampners overload and your engines rend the ship nto neat little pieces.
