The flamethrower works differently than the ones that require oxygen to burn instead it shoots out plasma from the engines and reactor and burns the enemy ship.It has a very short range only about 0-30gu to represent the short range of the flame thrower (u wouldn't like plasma coming at u from 400gu away). So what do u think?

well, essentially... a torpedo is an explosion contained in a field...

What I think? Honestly?
A flamethrower is about as out of place in a science fiction spaceship duel as a Fusion Torpedo is at the Battle of Gettysburg. I applaud you for your originality, but picture your proposition here.
You're putting a mid-twentieth century (and popular first-person shooter) short-range flesh-cooker up against a twenty-third century space-faring, armored battle cruiser. I don't care how big the flame is supposed to be, it's just not realistic.

Do our ships even use plasma?

Actually Demorian, it is used in more then just FPS games, it was also used in ShatteredGalaxies for ground to ground & air to air combat, only problem being its close range..

Hmm...
My ship can withstand Chemical Laser beams that burn brighter and hotter than the core of a star...most stars, alteast...but, it sure would look pretty, being attacked by a flamethrower...right up untill I alpha the poor ship with something more effective...like a gauss gun.

I just had an incredibly hilarious idea. What if you used this in a nebula...? Or what about using it to detonate incoming torpedos? Or to sterilize a K'Luth repair drones? Imagine the uses a flamethrower-type weapon could have in a minefield... The uses of a flamethrower extend beyond combat . Of course, the flamethrower would have a nasty effect on your ship if you used it while heavily damaged (i.e. the hull fractures allow it to vent into your ship and you get BBQ'd.)

well look
we have to toss 100-150 thermonuclear explosions to kill a dreadnought.
ain't gonna bother it with a little drive plasma.

When you damage a ship severly and its falming and spewing stuff, maybe you could ignite it, but you could ignite it with Chemical Lasers or Disrupters.
I see no logical use for a flamethrower other than charing and making the matal plating on a ship buckle.

Bah, sounds like a cheap CR knock off. In CR in the Rogue Trader zone the "Fusion Torch" was VERY Popular among newbs. Most experienced players hated it .
IMO its not a good Idea.
