You are? well - this is quite a surprise. Mostly because there *IS* *NO* onboard sound device!
The initial post contains a
link to my motherboard
Yes, there is a Creative AudioPCI (ES1370), SB PCI 64/128. I have entertained the idea that this might be related to the graphics problems im having, but then if this is the case, why would the beta work fine?

OK have reviewed the specs and have some suggestions:
- Reinstall latest Windows 2k service pack
- Use internet explorer to ensure all Windows updates are upto date
- Download and install the latest VIA 4 in 1 chipset drivers
- According to the Knowledge Base link on left menu, the Geforce 2 and MX are support, but your card is an EMULATION, not a true version of the card so actual mechanics may not perform the same
- Download and reinstall DirectX9b. Anytime you install new video or audio drivers, you have to reinstall DirectX.
- Ensure the game is running in full screen mode, not windowed
- Turn off/close any menu bars you have on screen from other applications, the MS Office bar, ATI bar, Roxio cd burning quick start pop up, any of those can cause a CTD if your mouse while in game covers the area of screen the menu bar is located at... I have been kicked out of Flight simulator because of that.
- Verify the settings you have your video display set to then reconfigure your game settings to match using the setup button above.
Start with that and we'll go from there.

I just want to say I looked over the dev log for 1.481 and there appears to be nothing which would affect the problem.
Maybe a bad cluster? *shrug*

I'm still looking into

just get a different gfxcard - i heard about nvidiaproblems since i joined DS in 2001; in fact those chipset has an amazing talent to refuse to work properly if the game is TC/IP based (the forumarchive has hundreds of them) no matter how often they introduce new models/driver.
