How about a medim to mediocre range energy weapon that only fires to the front or side of a ship ( preferably cruiser or higher) and does a quite a bit of damage but isnt excactly hard to dodge or avoid thus balancing it out.
No flaming responses please if u dont like merely so say and drive on. If u have any ideas to add to this please post them

Cannons are going to upgraded, more range, more damage and more speed.
No need to add the the cannon from your suggestion then

As Barth said. Plus ship layouts are being redesigned to fit more into thier specific roles. This includes adjusting the armour and weapon fire arcs.

which means EAD is gonna be the EAD before the hull values got bumped up *G* which means 1 jump dessie dessie dies withing 5 sec

revamped weapons are nice fixing firing arxs and armor is nice. but i like im sure many other people do like playing with new stuff too not just old stuff thats stweaked. thats just me though way try new stuff when the old id just fine. *shrugs*

Need more information before I can make intelligent commentary...
- What is medium range?
- How much damage does it do in relation to current tactical systems?
- How much power does it draw in relation to current tactical systems?
- What is its projectile speed in relation to current tactical systems?
- How long does it take to recharge?
- How many shots per discharge? Ex.: Torpedoes have one shot per discharge, cannons have five shots per discharge.
- Does it loose power over range? If so, how much?
- What slot does it occupy?
- What factions can use it?
- And, the final question: Is there already a tactical system in game that is supposed to function this way, and just doesn't? If so, then the flawed device should be fixed rather than simply slapping another component into the game.
Until these questions are answered, I cannot give your idea a proper analysis.

There's already somethin like this planned, form what I understand.
The Quantum Singularity Torpedo for the UGTO, the Ion Cannon for ICC, Stellar Incinerator for K'Luth.
All are longish-ranged siege-type weapons with large blast, and high power, and MASSIVE energy consumption, from what I heard.
