Cause cloak just isn't worth anything if a single ECCM can ruin it.

You like that ecm would drain your energy to 0? As much as I liked the old cloak system, I don't like having my energy drained to a point of incapacitation while I can't do anything about it. You get one shot, then they turn on ecm and you can kiss your energy goodbye. I used to hate that.
BUT...I do want cloak changed. This current system is even worse than the old one. Now, instead of one ecm draining your energy and rendering you docile, it makes your cloak useless and a waste of a slot. You might actually want this current system back after going back to that old one. Watch how fast your energy is depleted and don't even think of approaching an enemy planet expecting to do anything!
I'll sign Just remove the energy drain and replace with something, well, that's not energy drain and that's not easy anti-cloak (which is what current ecm is) I wanted a system where cloak gave you additional natural negative sig, of like -9 or something. That way, ecm would still work but it would take more than just one.

As much as i agree that it would be cool to have a cloak that actually does what it should, we wont get it.
Why not? Because the DarkSpace Developers listen to the community.
This is actually a great thing, it does however also have a bad side.
Not soon after we would get a good cloak the forum start filling up with whiney people who get their ass kicked because theyre to stupid to use tactics.
And being a human, none of us will skip on a chance to decrease the enemy ship strength. So eventually this group will gorw larger, untill their voices are heard and cloak gets fried back to where its worthless.
Anticipating this i would rather suggest a medium cloak and use that rather then have a good cloak so it can eventually be pushed down to crappy.
Logical no?

How long exactly do you think this will be?
Take a K’luth ship, by default our power is limited.
Add to that a cloak that uses up part of our energy.
Add to that 4 Disrupters that eat away our energy and reload damn slow.
Add to that 5 Am Torpedo’s who do the exact same thing as the disruptors.
Were gonna have to fly 750 gu into your dictor field, while our energy is being drained.
Then we open fire, if lucky we can fire 2 torpedo waves before were out of power.
Then were gonna have to try and run out of your dictor field with no cloak or weapons.
I do see an imbalance, just not on the human side...
Oh and ECM wouldn’t protect us from the energy drain, it would just decrease our signature by 3 points once we run out of energy.
Or not seeing as the ECM requires energy to run

This will actually make K’luth tactics more important than just *jump, mash spacebar, laugh as enemy ship explodes*. K’luth will return to the hit and run faction they were designed to be.

K’luth should be more like the Romulans in Star Trek.
We should have fast but weak ships and weapons that do not a lot of damage but dont use up a lot of energy either.
We should only be visible to special ships who have sensor arrays capable of detecting our cloak field.
This will allow us to actually hit and run.
We would be able to fly towards to you cloaked, Decloak and open fire.
In groups we could probably kill 1 or 2 of you. If not then it doesn’t matter.
We simply cloak and fly 1000 Gu away from you.
Here we will sit and recharge our energy, once done we will start at the beginning.
K’luth will never be a hit and run faction the way they are right now, Perhaps a hit, kill, point and laugh faction but never a hit and run...

I feel cloak should be as it is in Star Trek for the Romulans and Klingons. Hard as hell to detect a cloaked ship, but then again while cloaked you cant shoot.
Why is that such a thorn in everyone ass. It would be simple, easy and in my opinion the way it should have been all along.

I hope what Malduc says is true that in 1.482 we are getting a new cloak that won't be detected by ecm AND won't drain energy due to ecm. Those two factors were what made cloak more a liability than an asset. Old cloak was better back when there was no modding or anything, but I don't think it would work better now in the current DS game.
It would be perfect if in 1.482 Kluth are visible for a short time after firing (they already are?). The power requirements of our disruptors and torpedoes make sustained fire impossible with cloak on so that's not a problem. We will run out of energy after two or three alpha strikes, plus our weapons take time to recharge during which we are completely vulnerable.
I just hope it happens! This current cloak sucks. The older cloak was better back when it was around, but only because DS was a whole different game back then (no modding, different engineering etc.). Doesn't mean it's good for now though. In fact it's probably worse for now.

Umm I think that ECM should not do anny effect on cloaked ships either, or else it will be ECM forts aggain but this time without the posibility of countering by an ECCM fort.
umm oh yes before I forgot

I agree completely with Arch. Yea, I'll sign this petition, but I really think cloak needs to be ST style
