I remember how everybody used to complain about how easy planets were to cap in the 1.480 MV. Funny that.

So the point: What the heck is the point of bombing when 8 ships working together couldn't get through a few plantary shields

The planet had shields, so I'm guessing the defense bases were also ICC pulse beam defense bases?

Cuz if so, that's what I've been saying! Remember my beta thread about ICC defense bases being too efficient (posted 2-26-04)? This is EXACTLY what I was talking about. All those bombs and all those bombers and very few actually got through to damage the shield.

Now UGTO and Kluth-built defense bases aren't nearly as good. Heck, I can bomb then take over a level 3 UGTO planet by myself with just my advanced carrier. But ICC built? Heck no.

I really think the biggest problem is the pulse beam defenses. You'll never drain their energy, and you'll be really lucky to get through to the shields.

EDIT: oh and people scoffed at me for saying ICC planets were too good. But I knew I knew it was just a matter of time before the truth was spread.

Another problem: MIRVs have large splash damage. They should have little to no splash damage considering how vastly superior they are to bios in every way.

This is how I envision our bombs:
MIRVS: very little to no splash damage, fast firing, will damage buildings and infantry, no effect on pop.
Bios: good splash damage, slower firing, only damages infantry, will lower pop.
PCMs: great splash damage, very slow firing, damages everything including pop, ISN'T AFFECTED BY ECM! (what's with that now anyway?)

MIRVS right now have everything going for them. Thus there's never a reason to use a bio. Every Kluth bomber has switched to MIRVS and that makes me question the current design of all our bombs.
