Possibly an upgrade of shields, possibly a new device, whatever works.

Instead of a system that takes damage before other systems (shields/armor before hull), a system that reduces a type of damage. A beam absorption/deflection field would, for example, deflect a percentage of damage or a certain number of points of damage. This could also be specialized armor. The original idea came from the Antaran deflection field tech from Master of Orion II/III, which flat out reduces all incoming damage by say, 75%. Which would be overkill for DS unless it was the *only* defensive system allowed on a ship.

Special field to reduce/reflect beam damage, to reduce torp damage (against some or all torpedo types), cannon damage (psi is a good candidate for not being affected), etc.

Random thought spawned by mention of the MOO series in the lobby.

I thought the Anatarians were in Imperium Galactica 2? And had really powerful engines...

However, this is a good idea, just make sure there is some balane in it all

Yeah the Antarians were from IG2.

It was the Orions in Master of Orion 3 that had it. Fun game btw

UGTO should only get this defection field as an upgrade to armor. ICC do have too many gadgets.
