Connecting to the beta server using the release client has lots of interesting effects. So don't do it. The topmost item states how to fix your modified releaseclient. Or simply delete the config.ini.
Also: The beta client doesn't work at all atm, so install & use the release client.

It didnt work, I used my Player ID for my User Id and typed in my password, but my user name was invalid or my password

are you shure you dont meddle beta- and released-stuff??
and
to log in (the normal way) is..
use kiddie121 (IF this is your player-name)
use ******* (your password)
