Depends on how long the people have been playing (and how long it has been SINCE they have last played). When I played, before this mega-huge-oh-my-god-"what a patch" patch, (which turned out to really be not that great afterall; in fact, it was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike great), the shift+number didn't work. We used to complain and complain about this, but no one ever did anything about it (ntil now evidently).
So saying that only fools do not use shift+number is a little short-sighted and naive.
