After further investigation it seems that the 'MFC42U.DLL' just isn't compatible with any non-NT based operating system due to some of the system functions it requires. So this pretty much excludes Windows 95, 98, 98SE and ME so long as this is a required file to run the beta.
I have finally finished downloading all the Windows 98SE updates and still have the same issues. Have fully uninstalled and reinstalled the beta client including all registry entries and so far this has had no effect.

I do not know if anyone else is experiencing this but my updater stops at 82 percent.

same problem as ruff and drafell, i know i got ie6 sp1 installed but i have mozilla is primairy browser, would that matter?

Primary browser setting shouldn't matter, as long as IE SP1 is installed.

oke i juz install ie 6 sp1 and still dun't work i'm on 98se .. any other choices?

Bug3: Get disconnected after 2-3 mins
System Specs: WinXP SP1, IntExplorer SP2, 512MBram, GeForce 440MMX, unkown Sound Card(compatible with DirectX9), DSL connection capped at 128kb/s

ok...played a few times..tried many things..here's what i found:
major RAM usage on initial ship selection causing hangups, after that, return trips to the gate are fine......
tested a heavily fighter based planet with a clanmate...11 lvl 1 fighters 2 lvl 2 fighter bases, didn't lag until he beaconed me with about 5 beacons...we were the only two ppl on at the time......
building...error with resource list as in wrong resources in red...also not updating as resources become available...things still build if you have what is needed though.....
Factory to starport.... factory builds...but if you introduce a mod device into that starport, or don't pull a fresh from factory device everything that enters the factory afterward becomes that one item ( i found you can still mod if you sell to another starport)
one on one combat not bad...add lag (for me atleast) per person engaged in combat still...
occassional disconnecting while loading objects, sometimes twice, occassional disconnects during game play and occassional "failure to connect server may be down" errors trying to connect

Cannot connect to server, this message is odd concidering I was connecting yesterday!! I dont know what changed but whatever it was it isnt allowing me into the scenario anymore!!
I connect to Beta Lobby just fine, I even connect to the update server fine, it appears that the only server I cannot connect to at this time is the Beta Scenerio server!!

Taz the problem might be that beta uses dynamicaly asigned ports.Some of them might be blocked by your network adminstartor or isp.I hope in final version we will be able to asigne a range of ports which ds will use.

Memory is 82%

~ship time-outs on player's logoff, have the times been changed? [edit] 2,3 and 5 minute waits still kicked me back to my engie

When I start the client it fails with the error dialog with a title "NVidia Geforce MX 440 1600z1200x32" which reads "Failed to initialise display!" .
My DS video setup screen has my screen setting actually set to 1280x1024x16.
I have used the 1200x1600x32 in the past with a different monitor. My current monitor doesnt go this high and the beta seems to be trying to use an old video setting and not the current one.

Okay, my experience with the lag:
It seems to not be simple latency. When the lag effect occures, everyone else is fine, and I can see them moving, shooting, etc, just fine. I recieve updates on the status of all objects in-game just fine.
When the lag clears up, all actions I attempted while lagged are performed, in the order I attempted them. It is as if the actions I took are buffered, and not performed until a significant ammount of time after they are issued. Anything I du during the lag period is delayed, and then later executed in the order it was issued. This includes sending chat, but not receiving chat. Receiving chat seems to occure at the appropriate time, rather than being delayed.
I also wonder if when actions are delayed like this for a sufficient ammount of time, if the client or server side sees me as no longer connected, and so goes through the disconnected routine, taking me to the exit/reconnect screen.

When looking at forums from Beta client, that fricking sig bug is back (ALL sigs appear as a single pixel, even teeny ones).
