Is this including the side arcs?

I mean, have you seen what happens when you dont rotate armor? You go boom. I like the BD because of the side arcs full of cannons. I can rotate side to front to side again, still firing the same fire power, meaning I'll live alot longer, considering I don't have to aim my front all the time to fire. I think it would need that extra armor then. Might do it good to have something like that, I like it.

"The Super weapons have the same damage to power ration of 6 mounts, so 32/32... "

Yes, but its the fact using them. The energy gets eaten alive.. You get two shots (From what I heard) While battling, or just about to engage battle until it eats your energy whole up.

I find it better as a finishing move, but the point was people would rather have the 6 extra guns then a super weapon that takes up so much energy. Specially when the BD is very efficent with energy. The EAD is as well, without firing the SUper weapon like its a weapon..

OH! another thing, I think the super weapon fires with a alpha (Space hit) which is another problem. It shouldn't, and have his own key. this could be aonther problem, but I know people fire it like constant anyways..

Thankyou for your analysis Tael and I agree with you in saying that the EAD is an extremely effective weapon. Just having that QST means that its near enough a one shot kill to any ship smaller than a destroyer. Just having that kind of power warrants the disadvantages of weaker armor facings and limited fire arcs.
I see the EAD as more of a seige dread. Heavy Armor on the arcs facing the enemy and able to bring all its weapons to bear through that arc.
The biggest weakness I have found when using it is the low armor on the rear/sides. Although its not unplayable, it does make thing difficult when piloting and it means that playing that ship now requires a higher degree of skill.

I was thinking about possible ways to help make it a little more survivable and the most sensible option to me seemed to be to give ait a single full arc armor in addition to its current loadout. This will mean that its not so prone to attacks from the rear and should be enough to just give it that edge it needs.
Giving it any more weapons is a mistake. The QST is a very powerful weapon when used correctly.
If you have 2 or more EADs together then people are going to be in trouble as they can inflict massive damage.

The BattleDread is a combat dreadnought. It is designed to be able to fight in prolonged battles.
The EAD is an Assault vessel. It is more along the lines of a Station destroyer or for attacking fleet formations. It is not supposed to be able to take on a full combat class dreadnought for long on its own.
It is now a much more specialised ship.

As for its current loadout....
It might actually be worthwhile replaceing a few of the stock lasers with more particle cannons as they seem to be a lot more effective. I think a lot of problems people are experiencing is with the stock loadout. I agree that this is pretty ineffective.

My suggestions for the stock version...
I would suggest to replace 4 of the Standard CL lasers with level 4 Particle Cannons which will compliment the QST a little better. This will enable the EAD to do a little more damage when closing in to its target (as I believe is intended) and then use the torps and Heavy CL to tear through the last of the armor.

Well, yesterday i modded an EAD... when modded and used right, its a powerfull beast.

Those stock torps are only lvl 0 and 4, with 2 lvl 8... switch em for all lvl 8, and your firepower goes up tremendously.
Secondly: who says particles and SCLs are the only things to be fitted in mounts? I slapped on EMP Cannons, Flux Cannons, and 2 EMP waves in my broadside/rear slots.

With an EAD you charge in head first. No other ship, save for stations and other assault dreads, have 3 layers of armor in one arc, so odds are pretty high you can crack his armor with torps, particles and HCLs before they get through yours. Ignore any armor damage on your front you're taking.
Then, as soon as their armor is gone, unleash hell. Flux cannons, EMP cannons, EMP waves and Flux Wave (if you dont mod it out for a Hull Repair [which might be a bug though]). Fire it all. By now they're getting hull damage AND system damage, while you are most likely still relying on your armor. Keep pounding and pounding. EAD will win every time.

Basic problem is: fly it like you should. If you fly it like the EAD we have currently, wou will get defeated. Do NOT touch your spacebar... group your wepons, and fire tactically. You don't have armor like before (2 layers on all arcs), be wary of attacks from the rear, and never expose that. Force your enemy to fire on your front while you eat at their sides or rear. Once they pierce your front, turn your side to them. You have a fair share of weaponry at your sides too, use it, especially any system damaging things.

Basically, forget everything about earlier versions. Learn how to fly again.

I do agree with this, the cannons are much better than the std CL's....much much better. Get rid of some CL's for some cannons at stock level, and I think the EAD would be balanced a little more.

As far as moded ships go, stdcl's on the ship do near to nothing compaired to cannons, so I use them a lot more now. Just needs a few weapon type/slot tweaks (stock) thats all.
