For those of you that know me, i of course have enlisted into the United States Navy back in November, today i just recieved a call from the head recruiter in charge in my department. Ive just been given the opportunity to push my basic training ship date from August 16th, 2005 to within the next week or two this month.

Right now i havent decided as to what i am going to do, and i am just planning on talking to the recruiter to see what type of job options are avaliable if i chose to do this. If anyone has an opinion, or wish to speak their voice here, please do so. Out of the two years, soon to be three years comming July 18th, i have come to know a lot of players here not only as friends, but come to be family. And it is only right to let my second family here in this community in on whats going on now.

An officer? We have a saying at NRS Hackensack "Do Enlisted respect officers? NO SIR!!" People who carry themselves through the enlisted ranks, especially up to Chief Petty Officer, will always bring about more respect if/when they apply for an Officer's rank. Plus, it lets you have a broader perspective on politics that you'll have to deal with as an officer in whatever field you choose.

As for jobs, be a NUKE if you can. They don't do anything (A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G) in boot camp but study....unless you hate doing just that. Just ignore me, then Just make sure you have a high school diploma and scored above 70 on the ASVAB. If not, there's always uhhh......Operations Specialist or Storekeep. Just don't be an AD (Aviation Machinist) like me, unless you like getting your hands dirty...and being the last one to leave for the day....when everyone else is out going....to...party....*starts ranting incoherently*

Yeah....I ship out September 15th but I had the opportunity to leave a month ago. I dunno about you but before I'm about to sign my life away to a commitment as important as the US Navy, I'd like to enjoy my last summer with friends and family and...DarkSpace. But, that's just me. Good luck in whatever decision you choose...and remember. >insert random profound phrase<

I posted this in the =CSA= forum and I copy and paste it here.

Sunday, June 12th Accident Cowboy leaves for Basic training in the U.S. Navy.

In August, Duo will be doing the same. I hate to lose Fleet members for an extended period of time like this but, I am proud of them both, it's has been and IS an Honor to know both of them.

Good luck, Safe Seas, and Gods Speed to both.

Salute.

Go when you are ready Ryan. You will know when and if you are. Next week or in August, You have already decided you just haven't informed yourself yet.

Alright, i went and talked to the recruiters, and by what Chief MacAfee had told me, they will send the request forms up to the MEPS building up in Columbus, and when they get info back on a new leave date and a new job since im a PR right now as it is, i will be able to decide if i want to leave earlier with a new job or stay as is with the August leave date and the job of PR, so that contract is good up until i sign a new one and it is faxed up to MEPS. So until that time i am still leaving in August, ill keep everyone updated if something changes.

Good luck Duo, whatever you choose.

Me, my thought is - you're obviously considering this. For many, joining the military is a choice about the very slogans they espouse - Be all you can be, etc. The benefits after enlistment (college, etc) are invaluable. I'm wondering if you're missing an opportunity to get it done that much sooner.

Thing is, you're doing this sooner or later - unless there's a specific reason to wait, why not go ahead?

Hate to see you go - but good luck.

Nax

Don't let them push your shipping off date.
keep it as is, you will have a lesser chance of being stationed in Iraq or some other sand riden hell hole. >.>

Officers are good, but you will always get a sneer from everyone! This dates back to WW2, when they started giving select individuals an extra month of training and they would be made officers. The officers would carry themselves as high and mighty. BUt at least if your an officer from the start you don't have to climb enlsted ranks. And think of the commisions.

Xin = Navy Recruiter? Egads there goes the neighborhood.... Anyways I can remeber when I set off on my Navy Career.. that was March 20th, 1985... I remeber it well.... now I am set to retire in March of next year...

Hope you did get high on your ASVAB.... since you are off to Boot Camp at Great Mistakes (RTC Great Lakes, ILL) you will have already started.... Did you already get a rate (Job)?

Quartermaster (QM) is a rate that is being advanced rather fast lately... Talk to a Career Counslor... not those part time ones but a real one... a real one will have the NC rate.... And anything you want to know let me know... I am currently stationed at NAS Jacksonville.... so if you come down this way let me know... I will give you the .50 Cent tour!

Rocko
