I miss the instint fun of pulling out a dreadnought on the FA server and jumping into a huge battle.

You mean that really short-lived jump effect with the red and blue shift effect?

The original deathstar planets, small moons with all structure slots taken up.

hehe, i remember the FA server game when we started calling them "death stars" ... those were awesome.

then along came PCM clouding w/ dreads and the likes.

what i really miss was the k'luth cloak ALWAYS working when you had energy (higher ECCM = higher energy drain). that was awesome. i'd take a drainer out:

1) remain cloaked
2) move to 100 gu of target (positioned directly behind target)
3) fire torps
4) fire elf (MUAHAH purple beam from nowhere... terrifies target)
5) alpha strike twice, run away, recharge, then come back and finish them off.

oh, and i'll always miss the FA server... i left when it got removed.

1) Checking every system in the MV for clients, and when there were more than 2, jumping in a dessie to have a good old fight

2) Camping at a jumpgate in an opponents home system and ambushing them just after they jumped

3) After said ambush in 2) waiting for the insults and the inevitable retaliatory strike

4) 4cemje's uber AM minefields (I still preferred nukes!)

5) The 30 ship Carrier Dread - Missile Dread standoffs in FA that used to crash the server

6) MoA - The most honourable fleet I ever played with and against

7) PB - Love em or hate em, they always made something happen

The HOAR fleet! ICC domination! All planets blue! Woot!

9) Long jumping to Delta Pavonis in a Command Dread knowing that you might only have 5 minutes to bomb and capture a planet before someone turned up to defend

10) Tracking a dangerous opponent in a damaged ship. The chat inevitably involved such gems as:

"2000 BEHIND ME. GO GO GO"

"He's jumping. Anyone got him"

"He manual jumped. Lalande. Anyone fancy it?"

11) 7 depot planets and using them as 10 second pit stops to repair and rearm your dessie

12) Tractor scouts - I salute you Josef

13) Flux scouts - The 3 weaponed ship of choice for vets who were bored!

14) Engine damage making your weapons miss, and only a few people knowing how to manually target.

Happy days. Sigh.

Me and HG rampaging the newbie server then bringing chaos to the FA with uber modded dessies/ACs in 1480.

jumpgate repair

ressource units

ICC AD with 4 elf beams

ICC AC with 2 elf beams

invincible ganglias with 6 cl2ks

Public demonstrations of hate ( praise ) and frustration ( jealousy ) in the lobby after one of my slaughter session in the 1480 FA/MV.

Quistis, I miss you my Queen...

Game play:

Roony and his incredible planet collision stat. You'd think the first 300 times he ran into the sun he'd get it figured out.

Tractoring the human spawn gate into the sun's corona so everyone would get killed by it the second they spawned, and later sitting in the lobby laughing about it when everyone complained after the game was over.

Tractor scouts pushing stations and dreads into planets in under 2 seconds.

Breaking up a planet camp of 20+ ships with a pair of stations jumping 3 secs apart and starting the SD countdown with 9 seconds left in the jump cycle, and exploding immediately upon exit (the counter is getting interdicted and exploding harmlessly 10k out from the target and getting laughed at).

Watching 8 dreads panic and e-jump out when a single enemy heavy supply jumped in.

Cyclozian, the evil dead that refused to die.

Following someone through several jumps including a few e-jumps and finally killing them ("how the hell are you able to follow me??!!").

Having R33 come to my rescue time and again and allow me to escape an angry mob baring torches and pitch forks.

Successfully escaping the clever attempts of my enemies to ambush me and add another death to my record.

Playing game warden in a kluth dread in the gas cloud hunting gaiffen poachers.

Killing Rogue's scout before he even got a chance to fire up his tractor beams (god bless my cl2k's).

Invisible kluth tractor beams and the chaos they created (hey, wth??!! Am I lagging???).

Bionicman modding his EAD with gaiffen mouthbeams and losing the staff all rights to fly the gaiffen ever again.

Admin stuff:

Banning Demorian out of a staff meeting when he was a mod.

IP banning Romania for rampant credit card fraud.

The industry standard response of "Two weeks" and "soon"

The retard who threatened to DOS attack the palestar game servers begging to be let back in after he was permabanned. "I didn't mean it really."

The pleasure of digging through server logs.

Calling and waking Faustus up at 3am to tell him the game servers have crashed.

All the admins hiding in a private chat room and mods coming in to see why its empty and still on the list (before they knew "how to find us").

Players asking for free credits/prestige and learning the hard way not to ask for anything free from an admin ever again.

When players figured out the staff couldn't actually kick them from the server without getting faustus on the phone and having him do it ("you cant touch me, I'm invincible!").
