Hola amigos.

For those of you who weren't around, long range cloud bombing works like this: Start with a ship that can launch long range planetary weapons (read PCM). Warp to a large distance away from the planetary target (still within PCM launching range). Fire a salvo at the planet. Align your ship with the salvo launch and the planet; short jump again to meet with the previous salvo fired, fire another at the moment the first salvo passes. Repeat this, until you build a "cloud" of PCMs heading towards the planet, so much so that it overwhelms the defenses.

Now this was nerfed for obvious reasons in previous patches.

Now, I give you the return of cloud bombing. How? Bombers. Why are bombers even better than PCMs?
1. They won't detonate if you short jump into them
2. if they survive the first round of planetary defense they can continue bombing runs.
3. Use of the new carriers can launch large volleys of these.

Onto the testing:

Used: One Agincourt stock carrier, compliment of 8 level 8 B-27 stratobombers.

The Alignment: With max levels, bombers can be launched at around a 10,000 gu distance.

The Build up: With this range and a stock jumpdrive, the carrier can launch up to 4 salvos to a total of 32 bombers before entering interdictor range.

The result: A planet with 100% shields reduced to 58% on one run, with initial volley.

The purpose of this is merely documentation, I offer no opinion for any of the following facets of the game:
1. The validity of bomber cloud bombing.
2. The effectiveness of the B-27 stratobomber.
3. The effectiveness of upgraded ships and fightercraft.

In the near future I will test this with ICC bombers, which are reportedly much more lethal than their UGTO equivalents.

Very nice strategy...I'd never have the patience to do that but I can see it becoming the new leet bombing type...I barely have the patience to standard cloud bomb lol...very nice job

There's actually a thread on this, that we and a BUNCH of other players did shortly after they put in the ARgincourt.

First page, down a ways. Is the result. Ignore the oversized fighters. Also keep in mind these were level 0 bombers.. Before the upgrade system.

People, please bear in mind that this is a TEAM GAME. One ship, that isnt specificly built or designed for bombing planets, isnt supposed to be able to take out a planet.

but jack, 1 ship is designed for bombing.. the bombing figher.. and since the carrier is a multirole platform. I dont see how this was over looked by the Devs.
