"SERVER CPU LAG" is now official FIXED...

Since the last update this evening, all servers are running in the 30% CPU usage range, with over 60 people in the MV. (In the previous version, we would have maxxed out the CPU on most of the machines).

The fix was released yesterday, however a minor bug in some logic broke yesterdays build...

The following line:
if ( m_PlayersTimer.signaled() )

Should have been:
if (! m_PlayersTimer.signaled() )

OOPS...

Now, keep in mind, this is an INTERNET game, so some lag is still to be expected... but the long 30 second pauses, with the loss of ship controls, should be gone.

-Richard

Those other 9 days of the year, on the other hand, are spent spinning helplessly in circles, punctuated with occaisional planet collisions...

I hate to put a crimp in things, but we (ICC and UGTO) experienced a great deal of lag yesterday in the Tau Ceti system. For some reason, I was hit the hardest when ICC began capping Atlantis and Argrea. Now I have two theories (none of which relate to the old server lag ) on why this happened. Now since this bad lag only occurred when there were a large number of ships and a couple defense ridden planets in proximity to each other, one of two things could've happened.

1) That funky Argrea zone lag problem from way back in a 1.482 beta has come back to haunt me.

Or...

2) The sudden increase of fighters and projectiles caused my video card to cough up a lung.

Now, usually my Radeon 9800 Pro can handle most anything except stuff like Doom 3 and Half Life 2 at high res. But I figure, hey, it's an ATi card, anything can happen.

So, to test this out, I lower the resolution all the way down to 1028x768x16 and stop Winamp playing in the background. It helped a little bit. When repelling the K'luth from Nicea I could actually control my ship and fire without spazing and turning 10 different directions at once. Hmm.

Guess twice who swarmed you . Had some fun by sending fighter swarms from a distance

@jack, i think your video card is inferior to mine =P i can run HL2 at full resolution with only slight video clipping, and then usually only during explosions

and, thankyou again faust =) amazing what a little ! can do to a games lag eh? =P

PS we love you!

Lag in tau ceti is definitely nothing related to clients directly because it was always affecting all in area ...

my theory is there are Asteroids ... if some projectile or explosion blast touch asteroids they change theirs path ... and i noticed that sometimes i or person next to me launched fighters to attack asteroid ... (usually mistargeted diamond)

after AI fighter first time hit asteroid ... asteroid began to move and then e.g. bombers got real issues with it (when was moving in 3rd axis) ....

not to mention AR missiles always miss asteroid while IT and PCM not ...
