...really big calm post.

Yeah, thats what this is.

Before I begin, I want to make sure that its completely known that this is not a post to rant, or to whine, complain, flame, etc. etc.

This post is to make a calm, yet obvious shoutout to everyone (Faustus, you in particular) about one true aspect of the game we alll really could do without and wish for it disapear...

Lag.

And no hitting that reply button yet! Im not finished.

Lag is a part of every game we know. We know what bases on it and what is the best and worst of it.

Now F, we know you've optimized the servers. We know their running in the 30% range. And we do know that their running fine.

That was supposed to fix the lag, and for the most part, it did! ...but theres a problem.

That all changes when it comes time to battle. This is when I notice any lag, and its widespread, its not just one person. If it was one person, only they would lag, however its everyone, everywhere. And thats where I see the problem.

Its not us. Its you.

There is, very, VERY rarely now client side lag, now, its mostly server side, and this needs to be addressed now.

What is there to support this? Well...

  • When, if ever, there is lag, I notice everyone lags as well, excluding chat.
this indicates unless everyone was running the same computer in the same place, its not us.

  • I also notice, that most times that there is lag, is when there is a battle occuring somewhere, with plenty of fighters and missles. Not FPS lag, this is connection lag, with delayed turns of 2 to as high as 30 seconds.

  • I myself, while lagging to hell at the time, along with everyone else, my current dial-up connection, running at a modest 48.0Kpbs, was using all available resources it could. More or less exluding the Yahoo Messenger I have in the backround, which was responding normally.

Also testing various setting it not improving (even at low), I decided to try another online game (Conquer Online) and even with 700ms showing as ping I did not lag.

Not once.

So I think with this all calmly stated in mind, I think this is something on your side F.

Say its us, say its not the servers say tweak your settings get new internet whatever, however I ask this.

Look into m8, at least see if there is anything wrong server side, before saying its running perfectly, it could be decieveing you. Thus the main point of this post.

Fix the lag, or at least most of it. Make us happy. Before you lose 90% of the playerbase before the free trial ends...

Conquer Online uses a form of moving you, then sending packets to the server. If the server were instead to update your movements after it recieved the movement command, you would see that 700ms.
