press Alt+P to see your latency, that should tell a lot. (perhaps not to you, then post it here)

If you have the connection type in setup set to autodetect then also try the following:-

Set your Max Framerate to 30fps, lower particle and trail settings to about 10-30%. Make sure Await vblank is enabled.

In game try adjusting your focus are using the /focus command.

Default is about 4500 so start at /focus 4500 and drop it in 500gu steps.
For most general combat /focus 1500 should work ok. The /focus command enables you to adjust the immediate update zone around your ship.
It might help, it might not. Worth seeing how it goes.
Also... when you connect to a server you will get a /bps xxxx msg, see if you can note it and tell us here what is is.

Looks like I'm not alone on this one. Hopefully that means they'll actually do something about it.

I think what you are experiencing is your machine not being able to handle the game graphics wise, and its compensating by taking CPU time away from other components to stop the process/machine from locking up, and that sometimes requires that some internet packets get lost while the machine tries to render frames.

well i tried it and i laged a hell out less when lowering everything, in fact i was in the middle of high defended planets firing missles and fires and very little lag just made it jumpy nut bareable, any thanks for yalls help

but if its a pc problem, i can't understand why since im running a p4 2.6 gightz, with 1.2 gigs of memory with intel graphics card with 64 mb shared memory on a cable modem, so it shouldn't be a pc problem with my computer right?
