I am starting this thread to give all Darkspace players a chance to show their appreciation for Faustus and the many good things he has done for Darkspace over the years.
So, let's keep a running list of things that we appreciate about Faustus. Please feel free to add more as you go along.
Any opportunists using this thread as a forum to criticize will be promptly executed.
--
Why we love Faustus:
Because he...
1. Created DarkSpace. (This one scores 100 points!)
2. Listens to his player base.
3. Includes players in the game development process.
4. Is constantly trying to improve the game.
5. Has the courage to reverse questionable game play elements.
6. Gives two week trials.
More to come. Let's keep this thread alive!

Faustus' greatest creation isnt the game. It isnt the engine. It isnt the amount of time he puts in even...
Its the community. He has created one of THE best communities, I'd take a stab at being the best even. I've been playing games for years, and this is the only one I still play after all this time.
Without a doubt though, he gives a lot to darkspace, more than some people realise. I wont repeat some things I know, because it isnt fair. But Faustus puts so much time into darkspace, especialy since has a family, with children, and he has to work like normal people do, since darkspace doesnt bring in enough money to live on.
He litraly spends almost every free moment on DS. Even when you think he isnt doing anything, he's recoding the entire backend, doing graphic optimizations. Doing things that would make the game better for us.
I still miss the times he would just pop into the lobby and just talk. Now he cant do that because everyone would just spam him with questions. I would love Faust to be able to return to his former ds-self. Logging in, having a chat, telling us about the latest movie he watched, and how rubbish it was, and then telling us to stay away at all costs, and that he would prestige-wipe anyone who watched it (joking ofcourse).
*raises glass*

perhaps Faustus has time for that when the new patch is ready and working:)
And if he doesnt after that, let the patch wait for a day:p

I have to agree... this game is the most addictive thing I EVER played, even tho I'm not always there, I keep coming back to it.
I thank him for creating a game that can be enjoyed just as much on a modem than on hi-speed and the best space online gaming experience, as a whole, in the past 3 years.
Sure I pointed out flaws and discussed heavily on touchy subjects over the years, but, it's only because I just LOVE this game.
*sheds a tear*
*sniff*
Keep it up F, we love you!

Therein lies the simple brilliance of Darkspace. And other developers would do well to remember.
Gameplay makes the game.
Not graphics. Not special effects. Not sound. Not easter eggs. Not novelty. Not features. Not content.
Because people play games, not because someone put in a lot of time and money to develop it. People play games because they are FUN. Why could people enjoy games which were being rendered in 8-bit graphics? Why could people enjoy text-based games?
Faustus - Darkspace, as I've said many times, is the BEST implementation of space flight on the market since the genre BEGAN. As you go forward with this, I hope you keep yourself grounded in what makes this game unique among everything else. The game was well-designed, well-balanced, and keeps a running struggle between all players and all factions. That is what people enjoy. And that simple, yet fantastic design is what puts you and your game, in many minds, notches above the rest.
Keep up the good work.

I remember when I first got into the Lobby of DS. I was having trouble with the game and asked for some help. Wouldn't you know that this weird named guy (Faustus) chatted with me to figure out how to get DS to work.
I had no idea who I was talking to, hehe.

go back to school, learn to read and figure out exactly what this topic is for.
Tael should change his name to Taelron (sounds way better)
