I feel your pain man. I don't know why you didn't get at least some sort of reply out of the deal.
However, your quest is a noble one, and I am sure, someday, you shall recieve the flaming email from the gods that is a message from faustus. You do need to understand the hesitation here though. Those models Im sure cost him a lot.

im sure they did. i just hope he's willing to allow me to use them. of course i will keep everything as is and delete them when im done. i just had this amazing idea for a advertisement and tried moddeling the ships myself but NURMS[3D Studio Max] isnt the easiest thing to use and i barely know anything about it...

I believe someone used the models of darkspace for an online game once, I know because I found the website...so I dont think he's willing to just give them to someone who isnt well known in the community. But thats just my opinion.
Also, Faustus just got a new machine after his own dying on him, he's probably having to awnser 100's of emails from the days he's been out of action. When I email him I usualy get a responce within a week, or a day or two. But he's working extremely hard on the new FreeBSD server and 1.484.
Just wait, being impatient isnt going to help you.

Exactly what do you want to do. Why do you need the models for your ad?
There are many of us with knowledge of various stuff so mayebwe coud help out on certain areas.
I can't personally think of much that would require just having the models and couldnt be done ingame.

I think you'd have to have some kind of professional background before getting access to the models..
3 days is a bit...

well, im only 16. wat kinda technical background could i provide for you?
all i can tell you is:
im 16
-i have a mediocre skill level in 3d modeling with 3ds max
-i have near-professional skill in image editing with photoshop
-im still looking to make a carreer out of eith of them
-i already emailed mr lyle about 3d modeling openings, i also posted it
-http://darkspace.net/index.htm?module=forums.php&page=/viewtopic.php?topic=35926&forum=100&0
now unless you got anything else i should provide, this is all i got.

If you use my suggestion above cropping screenshots of profiles and adjusting the lighting with photoshop creating some outline then incorporating them into the model area ie side, front top, back etc then you can perform the results you need, you dont need the models and i highly doubt Mr Lyle will give access to you.
Goes back to the days in the late 90's when some russians reverse engineered the code on an WW2 Flightsim called Warbirds Online and they called it Freebirds, being in the Russian state, very little in what iEN (owners of Warbirds) could actually do to stop it, so security of his hard earn work is priority. Maybe his silence is also a clue??
Tochy who is well known in the 3D model world does exactly the same principal as above and his results lead to great trailers within the flightsim community. Watch "Merlins" based on the Mossie. All this is done with Lightwave a similar package to 3DSM.
http://www.angel.ne.jp/~tochy/index.htm
you wil get the results like this when applied, no doubt you dont them in the past like making cars etc. http://www.angel.ne.jp/~tochy/tips.htm
