And turn your FW back on! jeez, worse thing you can do. Unless you have a external modem with built in FW?

refortmat.....or delete DS including the registry then reinstall.

well, is your processor 32 or 64 bit and if 64 bit are you using 3rd party 64 bit drivers?

Wth, why do some people always fall back on 'reformat your C drive!'.

The 64-bit thing though, maybe. But I'm sure others have 64bit and run DS.

In that 'error report', could you please click for technical information and post the results. That screenshot just shows microsoft promising not to steal your soul.

I have run both 32bit and 64bit windows and have had no problems with DS.

Here is a sure solution to your problem....take your harddrive out...throw it against the wall and after that beat it with a sledgehammer after all that if it still doesnt work dont blame me.....

bah, just got power back, live in miami, and am trying all of your various solutions with the glaring exception of reformatting and the destruction of the C drive

btw, I turned my FW off /temporarily/ so that I could remove that particular variable.

I have a 64-bit proccessor and am only using the standard AMD drivers.

yok, tried everything, still, the exact same problem absolutely no change in the results.

Here's the fun:

AppName: gcql.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.1 ModName: mfc42.dll
ModVer: 6.0.9586.0 Offset: 0004d43a

Bah.

Still happy to have power restored

Well you have probably already tried this but just incase you havent ...... try doing a registry scan i use nortons system works, might just be a silly bug in ur computer, the other thing is to try and locate the error file, have a look to see if it exists. and if it does try to delete it and reinsert it manually, if not try and insert it manually. the problem can not be hardware due to the fact that you have played the game before so must be software. you have rulled out ur firewall, you said that you are running the basic amd drivers im sure you have tried this but if not update all ur drivers (grafix, motherboard, sound, direct x, java etc find everything and update). another thing which come to mind is have you altered your computer software since the last time you played ds have you formatted the hd or put new software in i find that some times new software can change setting without ur knowledge. also look to see if there are any conflicts or not properly installed hardware in ur device manager.
well hope all goes well.

Hmm, have you tried deleting the downloaded setup file and re-downloading it, maybe from a different source. You could have a corrupt download.
