Anyone else in a similar situation to myself - as in, a member for 4 years, yet still only a Captain? Obviously I haven't played 4 years solid, but on-off for quite a lot of it. I'm thinking of coming back in, but considering I obviously suck when people who join and within a year are fleet admirals exist, I'm not sure whether it's worth it.

Some of them are using an exploit that does exist but is not against the ROC (at least not yet) that involves bombs. Some are just genuinely good.
Yet others just don't have much of a life. I wouldn't worry about it if I where you. The first group isn't all that good, and the 3rd would be people you see just about constantly on here. The 2nd group is the one to worry about.
As for me, it took me over a year to make FA, with at least 2 hours/day on here.

Meh, after awhile you can own those bombers. I can say I gained mine the hard way back in .480

I still gain mine the hard way. Combat all the way baby. It's what makes you feared. Bombing has no indication of combat skill, so those players can bomb all they like. When bombing gets fixed and they resort to combat, it'll be me and the others that have concentrated on the main area of the game and gained prestige the fair and hard-earned way that will prevail.

It took me four years to get Admiral; you can still enjoy the game if you're old and have a low rank - whats different from being new and having a low rank? At best, you have a slightly better idea of how to play; at worst, you'll be on even footing with the New Noobs.

it took me 3 years to make FA. the people who make it there in 3 months are the ones who die the easiest, its nothing to fret over.

Well I made FA in 4 months back in .480 but I used to play 24 - 7, it was very addictive, did not resort to bombing at all only combat, capping, supplying and building.

It was a goal I set myself to accomplish, now it takes 2 days for this new guys to be GA and with over 2k of prestige. Like Jack said we'll see when the bombing gets fixed who the real players are

Bunch of farmers lol
