An idea:

Rather then just targeting the enemy, i think it would be a great idea if we could also target there systems....

So let's say as a base rule, you have to be within 200 gu's of the targeted ship in question. then it's devices will be displayed under your currency in the top right of the screen. If you have a scanner and use that whilst the ship in question is selected. you will be able to detect all its devices up to 400 gu's away. ECM's will shorten the distance needed to detect systems as well as reducing the ships signature.

Each device will have it's own effects if damaged / destoryed.
Now, a damaged device will repeair itself over time as it is the game now, but a destroyed one will have to be replaced.

If a weapons device is destroyed, then that weapon can no longer be used. same for "Special" devices like Flux and Dictor weapons.

If a jump drive has been destroyed - no jumping.

If all sub-light drives have been destroyed And that ship has auxillery power systems. that ship can no longer move but can still use its other devices.
If the ship has no auxileyr power gens then the ship wont be able to do anything.

armour/sheilds will regrow/recharge/repair as they do normaly.

As well as the devices, you can have the options to target there ships HULL or CARGO area.

Targeting the hull will do what tyhe game does now to damage ships.
Targeting the Caro area will "destroy" their cargo (use against transports).
When targeting individul devices, only that device and 75% of the sheild/armour Arc around that device will be damaged.

Just my 2 cents.

in short form, you can, some some extent. device targeting came in with... gee must have been 1.481. but it didnt pan out so hot, and while it hasnt been removed per se, its not exactly a well known feature (check the manual), and you cant focus damage on a targeted device

We already can target systems, since 1.483 at least, can't recall anything from 1.480, and I think I missed 1.481-2?
Atm, if you have 1 heavily damaged device, you're probably dead :/

The whole reason system targetting to inflict damage was removed, was because it would effectivly make UGTO either uber weak, or uber strong.

Scenario A

EMP cannon, Flux beam, and Flux wave all have an INCREASED systems damage effect, even when targeting systems. This would mean any UGTO ship with these weapons could disable an enemy ship far too quickly.

Scenario B

ICC and K'luth can target and do just as much systems damage as UGTO, meaning Flux weapons and the EMP cannon are effectivly useless special weapons.

heh, thats crap because in Release i used the > Key and well, it shows what the enemy has therefore it maps the enemys slots, so what i did was a little experiement, i targetted a BD's Weapons Array which would be foreward and Launched a Full alpha at them knocking them offline so it can work

uhm i assume that was when his hull was already open?
because if so, even just targetting the ship would have had the same effect.

It would be nice, that when you target a ship, little diamonds would appear on the locations where the devices are (1 diamond for all drives, one diamond of a specific type of weapon, such as lasers, etc.), that way it can be targetted easily and shot at. =)
