Possible Advertisement Competition? |

Currently, the DarkSpace community isnt very big. So i suggest that an advertisement competition be held!
Quite simply, the 1,3,5,10 or however many people who get the most people to join will recieve a reward. this could range from $$, to maybe 7 days free play, or prestige.
This could be held perhaps monthly, and the scores are reset each month, so if player X gets 5 people to play in month 1, he doesnt start month 2 having 5 people "recruited".
When joining up, people would have the chance to enter a referal code (much like when subscribing). if they do this they might start with an extra 25k or something like that.
Obviously it would have to be from different IP's to prevent people making tons of dummy accounts.
I was playing another game several months ago, and, because the amount of players were declining, they too decided to hold monthly advertising competitions. Within a month probably 200 players signed up because of the advertising competition.
Now im not saying that by next month an extra 200 players will have signed up, but we have to start somewhere, right?
Advertising Competition = More Players
More Players = More chance of subscribers
More Subscribers = More $$
More $$ = well, alot more people will be happy =D

How about a banner ad competition? I'm not sure if DS has banner ads elsewhere, but it would help drive in some new members. Personally, i found DS by using the key words "dark space" while looking for backgrounds for a myspace profile  So having banners may help as well.

if you look at the top of the webpage, you'll notice we have some banners in rotation. those are from the last banner competition. id continue on about banners and advertising but i wouldnt know what im talking about so ill just stop here

already been said, we do have a referal system in place which results in free playtime for the referer, and since being subscribed results in prestiege... you're also not going to get cash out of it because darkspace doesnt have that kind of capital available for this sort of thing, if you're taking about hard currency. 25k credits aint much either. i can make a million in about 45minutes with little effort depending on sell prices, and ive been recently handing out credits in 2-300k lots to newbies

this is where I wish i had Website code access, so that I could build a 'link' referral system tied to player ID.
Essentially you would use http://www.darkspace.net/referral.php?ID=@playerID
This page being called could then be logged in the DB and it would give us all kind of funky stats to play with. Even better you could add IP tracking to it and also possibly do some other neato stuff realted to advertising.
I know there is a similar system used to help track the Downloads and links on the site...

err shoulda explained it better. not really $$, but ingame cash.
and i know we have a referral system in place already, but thats only when people are subscribing, this would be targeting to get people to actually play the game in the first place

Just my 2 cents.
If you want to promote Darkspace. take a picture and buy a flag/banner.
And take it to every LAN party you go to.
