So how were the stations before whs came? People were able to get along without whs, were they not?

I would hate to see the WH removed and would hate to see the scaled down to a couple feet and stuck on the station as its only form of transport. because if a station goes to a enemy system via WHing to the jump gates and WHing somewhere in the enemy system and gets attacked then where is it suppose to go? no matter where it WHs to, its screwed.
I’d say if we are hell-bent on scaling the WH down than make it to where you can only jump within friendly planets/systems then the station can switch while orbiting a friendly planet with research ~70 to the HMA and will be able to jump to enemy space and will have a chance if attacked.

If a station gets caught alone in an enemy system, it SHOULD die...

Umm, open a wormhole to the jumpgate?
|

Yeah, I saw that coming.
Do you realize how long it would take to open a WH, do a 180 (because you'll always come out facing the opposite direction of the gate), fly at 6gu to the gate, go through it, and wait for your WH to be charged again? It would still take forever to go anywhere.

Perhaps in that case a solution would be that short range wormholes would be more accurate, last longe, use less energy and have quicker recharge than longer range ones. That would make them useable for in-system and system-to system transport, but far less favorable for things such as a Sirius-to-BS jump, for example.

Go for it!
I might even come back and check up on DS again if its ridden of the current system-assasin tactics.

well
im for tactics so in fact against the super charged super ranged wh´s
the problem is with the current wh tech is to easy to attack far off systems then bail out if things get to rugh.
so short range the wormholes + make the stations able to make regular jumps again as standard.
lets get line of surply back

For once I kind-of agree with Ragg (I'm all for removing all WH's though).

WOW this is a great idea honestly i think this would make the game better reduce lag and make systems defendable. Like today in the MV the kluth made a WH from Sirus A to Sol basically destroyed sol except for the safe zones. Atm this game is a chess board with out any spaces. Actually if you think about it the main problem is bombing you can take out a system with a bomber cruiser and a supply. The station makes the WH the bomber goes in with the station you can expect the whole system to be leveled in a few mins. then again it really really pisses me off when you are fighting the icc in tripwik and the kluth turn up in sol and level everything. maybe keep the WH only for insystem jumps

Wow. I almost forgot all about this thread. Yes, the concepts were well recieved by the community and devs alike. The changes have been carefully weighed and have already been implemented in v1.484 beta.
Let this be an example of how calm, organized, logical discussion of game issues are really listened to by the devs, as opposed to posts of just insane shouting about 'take this out or I wont play anymore!'.
