Considering we have few developers (two), I can't see this coming to DarkSpace anytime soon. Also, considering the fact that DS is better played in third person 99% of the time, it seems a waste of development time, and man power.

if for some reason fighters were pilotable, that'd be a good use for a 1st-person interior view. if you're in control of a several-hundred-meter-long space-borne slab of hot death, its not so much of a good idea to be constrained to a narrow field of view, especially when other several-hundred-meter-long space-borne slabs of hot death are slinging coherent light and pew-pew-pew and laz0rz at your several-hundred-meter-long space-borne slab of hot death.

see what im getting at?

it would be nice to have a pic of the bridges on dreads and cruisers and such.

no, no it wouldnt.

aside from all the other hud elements, you'd also need a more traditional radar-type display than the periphial system we have now, which would take up screen space, just to find and track enemies.
if you're in a 1st-person view, you can only see whats in front of you, between 25-33% of the immediate area (assuming 90-120 degree standard and depending if users can change the FOV setting, which probably wont be a user cvar).
to see anything outside your FOV you have to turn your ship, not something dread/stations can do particularly quickly (cruisers aint exactly nimble either), which means that theres a very good chance of your not being able to see what you're shooting at.

with the way things are now, you have to press one, maybe two, keys and your view will track your target regardless of whatever direction your ship is facing.
