It is good to see people trying to come up with creative ideas to improve DS, but as Jack has said there are things that are currently more pressing in the 1.484 version.
I can tell you that suggestions as yours do not go unnoticed. It may seem like they do because of the small numbers of developers this company has. I have discussed many an idea with them over the years... some implemented and some not...
Please keep those ideas coming and lets keep the comments about said ideas to a constructive level...
One idea simuliar to the gate idea was to place Defence Platforms around a gate... to make a artificial bottleneck for invading units...
Maybe they will be back? maybe not... who knows...
Keep up the ideas and don't let the other guys get you down...
DS is far from dead and be it known we Mods, Admin and Devs are doing all we can to keep DS alive and well!

might help but it kinda makes more problems than fixes at this time for it would mean the mv gets shut down up to 3 hrs unless there verry clever and find some other way to do a major fix to the mv and all that... at this time i dont think they should do anyting there not sure the players would like for they have few enough players as it is.

How about making gates destructable and letting engis build new ones,
couldnt be a quick build so that a faction would need to protect the engi long enough to finish would require gold engineer and would require a long jump to 2nd side to complete the build with exit gate.
New gates would be invisable to other factions until first use or until enemy visual detection, then would show up on map only if you have owned planets in one of the systems with one of the ends.
have a maximum number of possible gates per system so the MV didnt start looking like a spider web or have AI pirate or mir attacks clean them out now and then.

That would require a lot of work, and a patch, which Shigernafy has already stated, we're spending time on 1.484 instead of anything else.

Ah I see. Oh well, as i said earlier I didn't know exactly how much work changing the gates would entail.
