Eve already destroyed ds.
and it's hard to bring players to a game as outdated as ds is.

Who said EvE and DS are anywhere the same??
Just because they take place in space, and you fly a ship, does not mean they are competetors...

EVE is nothing like DarkSpace. It's like saying World of Warcraft destroyed Half-Life 2. The only similarity between them is that they're set in space. DarkSpace is more of an arcade-type MMO, whereas EVE is trying to be a full blown simulation.
Faustus has told me in the past that he wants to upgrade the engine graphicly, and he wants to incorperate Vertex and Pixel shading at some point (it would make cloaking look a lot more spectacular, and effects such as missiles blowing up would be a lot more visualy impacting).
With extra people on the development team, it leaves things such as this to Faustus, and people such as me, Drafell, Tael, and Shig, can work on content, and balancing that.
One of the biggest and up-most important ways to help us (the development team), is actually testing 1.484 when it's released. If we don't catch all the bugs, or find obvious design flaws, we cannot fix them, and they make it into released, and we risk another 1.483 (which we do not want).
Faustus has told me and Drafell that the beta server should be up and running by the end of the year. I will email him to verify this. One of the most important things to test when this is done, is if the new network arcitecture works as intended. This will involve things like launching hundreds of fighters, and large battles involving AI, and such.
And a personal request: When 1.484 beta is up, and all the content has been changed and we need to test it. We need people to test all the ships - not just the dreadnoughts, and stations. The most important part is making sure the smaller ships work, so we do not have another Escort/Picket Destroyer fiasco.

No one said eve and ds are competitors. as far as i see ds has none at the moment. but eve is the nearest thing.
wonder how many left ds with this bad patch and went to eve?

all im Basicly tryna say is, i want, and im sure a few other people do, is for darkspace to get popular and more enjoyable than it currently is and to do so its gona need to start looking at the competetion and implement simaralitys but not actually copying another game,

This is the most common mistake people make when attempting to compare EvE and DS.
We are not actually competiting with EvE directly. Sure there are certain similarities like being set in space and flying ships, and both game are considered MMO's, but thats just about where the concept similarities end.
EvE is an economy simulation with a D20 "Everquest model" space MMO built onto it. The gameplay is fully automated, and you have little direct control over any of your ingame actions. Most of the game elements in EvE are also designed to 'hide' lag, which they can afford to do as there is no "twitch" gameplay. You can keep adding layers and layers of complexity as that is the idea of a universe simulation.
EvE also has a hard coded virtual skill system which directly limits how fast and what level of progress you can make.
In contrast, DarkSpace is a real-time combat simulation. You directly control what your ship does, when your weapons fire, detonating misisles and torpedoes for maximum effect etc. You are capable of moving your ship to avoid getting hit. None of this is based on the roll of a dice. It relies on PLAYER skill and game knowledge as opposed to code based virtual skills.
For this reason, each feature much be simple and intuitive to use. It is fine to add complexity, providing it is not vital for you to learn in order to be competitive within the core game universe.
An example would be with building planets. Nearly any player is capable of building a reasonable planet, but it takes a skilled player to know how to push it one step further and get most out of what a planet can provide, or to recognise what changes will be of the best strategic and tactical use.
Experience has shown us that for DarkSpace, basic level complexity is bad. Anything that needlessly conflicts with getting to the fun game elements doesn't belong here.

It is easy to quote part of a sentence and misrepresent what was actually said...
We are also looking for people who don't speak english as thier first language, and are willing to translate the DarkSpace website (particularly the manual) to one of the 8 officially supported languages.
This also applies to ingame assets such as ship names etc...

i defenently see points made drafell, and especially you'res. Good points in fact, but im not on the same ball court here, im not going into complexity and what models and lag or what controls eve compared to DS, im talking about general interactive <and i downloaded ur fantastic but very complicated Bender, ive watched and read the tutorials, but its dam hard to even start anywere especially me of no animation/moddeling/gamedesign/3dviewpoint experience other than basics. so if someone could help me out, like get started. how to render a cube properly and change its rendering, then possibly shape? i cld get the hang of it.
Anyway im trying the best i can to help DS as much as possible, but ive got to be right about something, i cant be all wrong about this game.
thx @ gonzo

I'll be happy to advertise for DS, when I want to play it again.
Trying to bring more players to a game that looks like it's in early Alpha isnt what we need, it'd bring us bad publicity instead of good. I say hold off on the major advertisements and what not until 484(If it ever comes).

A good idea. Maybe their should be a news post that the beta version is up(FOR MORE THEN 5 HOURS) - perhaps, also, an e-mail to everybody.
then we can get one day(week?) where everybody can test anything.
