When u connect to DS, and then hit space, u instantly comes into the game, why is this, and does this do something that will cause more lag or somethingt?

just a mechanism to bypass the caching of resources, models and the like. doesnt have any adverse effect on performance. (not for me anyway)

If you have fast enough HDD and memory (I'm talking DDR400 and low latency settings (TCAS/CAS)), then you can hit spacebar to bypass the caching of resources from the HDD to memory. Without this, whenever you jump into battle, DarkSpace will have to grab the model data, textures, etc, from your HDD and load them into memory, whilst this is happening, DarkSpace will hang, and you will not be able to do anything.

This is only a development 'tool' that we use so we can get into game faster to test things out when the caching of data isn't important. I do not recommend this if you do not have a fast system, or you experience DarkSpace hanging, or slowness in battle.

However, if it takes you forever to load, you can always hit spacebar towards the end of the loading, that way, you get a large portion of the data loaded into memory.

Though I have a 5 year old computer and it works fine with spacebar about 10 seconds into loading. There IS a slight stall as I encounter something for the first time, but its never been enough to cause a problem. Usually the only time its noticeable is if I see a group of planets for the first time - and that's often only in the initial window with the play, observe, exit buttons, as it tends to start with a planetary cluster.

Anyway, moral of the story: don't be afraid to hit space.. unless your computer is like a p2 or has a 15rpm hard drive.

I for one let it load fully - have far less lag problems it seems than anyone else, why jynx it? Only when I'm in a rush do I space in.
