A) duels are lame

B) Alien, Duel: Noun, a prearranged fight with deadly weapons by two people (accompanied by seconds) in order to settle a quarrel over a point of honor

deadly weapons... so, death... fight to the death... youve heard of duels before, right?

C) ... duels are lame. they only made sense in games like tribes where everything was down to skill and running away meant dying anyways. i think all duels should be accompanied by dictors.

or just activate a script that removed the jumpdrives of both parties, and replaces it with a tractor beam so that they cant get too far apart.

Neither of those ideas is really good since one of the foremost tactics of a good combat pilot is point jumping - and in some cases, jumping a short ways away if the enemy gets behind you so you can reposition for another attack.

If you get more than 5k away from your enemy, then you automatically lose. And it should be that if you jump away from someone in a duel you are forced to loose as much pres as if you had self destructed your ship AND lose the ship from your garage.

Fighting with deadly weapons does not necessarily lead to death. A sword can be used to slice a heart or to scratch a finger.

And yes, I have heard of duels. Duels are NOT about death.

The duel usually developed out of the desire of one party (the challenger) to redress a perceived insult to his honour. The goal of the duel was not so much to kill the opponent as to gain "satisfaction," i.e., to restore one's honor by demonstrating a willingness to risk one's life for it.

Also,

At the choice of the offended party, the duel could be:

1. to first blood, in which case the duel would be ended as soon as one man was wounded, even if the wound was minor:

2. till one man was so severely wounded as to be physically unable to continue the duel;

3. to the death, in which case there would be no satisfaction until the other party was mortally wounded;

4. or, in the case of pistol duels, each party would fire one shot. Even if neither man had been hit, if the challenger stated that he was satisfied, the duel would be declared over...
(various sources from the Wikipedia).

Pay some particuar attention to cases 1, 2, and 4.

Crim, much of what you said is incorrect, but after posting the above I don't think I need to elaborate.
