My roommate had an interesting observation while watching me play today. Ships that sit in orbit just sit there like dead weight. We assume there are 'automated systems' on our ships which prevent us from falling into the planet. Perhaps you should add a simple small rocket/fire effect from key points around a vessel blasting towards the planet while the ship sits in orbit to make it look a little better.

Then, in a MUCH later version, make the planets actually draw in nearby ships (like a tractor beam does, stronger when closer and stuff). Battles near planets that pull you in will make ships be able to 'drift' sideways mid-fight. THAT would be cool.

Anyway, just the first one would be cool. the seconds might be asking a bit much.

good idea there, but one problem i might see is how are people going to build planets while continually working their thrusters from crashing into the planet.

Ideas not really suited for .484, but maybe a later version.

Don't like the idea of planets with gravity though, I know it sounds good on paper but I just can't see it working very well in practice.

Other than that, I think the idea isn't too bad. Wrong section for it though.

@Doda, there would be not difference with building from orbit as now. The automated thrusters would hold your position while you build.

Adding gravity to all planets would require a lot of processing power from the server, and I mean serious processing power. There's a reason NO space MMO has incorperated this, and it's for that reason.

Good in theory, bad in practice.

think our long list of "i hit the planet omg!" recompensation posts is prove enough: planets have enough gravity already ^^
