Hello guys and girls,

As you may not know i'm working on a few new sound effects for the next update, but, in order to complete this i will need some help. I'm after short (less than 5 seconds) recordings of random sounds, and that doesnt mean voices for all those budding DJ's out there lol. Bear in mind that these have to be original sound clips aka no clips or sounds from other games etc. For those that have the facility to upload these to the internet, feel free to post a link (bear in mind that offensive links will be removed). I will keep this post open for approximately two weeks (and no that is not a 1.481 two weeks) before i start work on sounds so please no asking which sounds will be used where. Contributors will be acknowledged in a seperate post once the update goes live.

DISCLAIMER: By submitting your original sound samples you are agreeing to their possible inclusion in either this or a subsequant update. This by no means binds that they WILL be included and or discretion is final. Once submitted all ownership of said sound clips by the original submitter is forfeit and the original submitter shall not be entitled to any reward, payment or otherwise for their use. Contributors shall be acknowledged once this or subseqant pdates go live, this acknowledgement does not in any way, shape or form allow the submitter to be entitled to recompense for the clips use. We retain the right to alter any submissions to conforn to the games needs and overall vision of the game.

All i need are some wave files or similar, I can convert from almost any format, however, most default recordings are either wave or mp3 so feel free to use either.

While there may be things we want to update, there's always a chance that you'll come up with a better sound for something than we currently have.

So I think the idea is - but Nat can correct me here - that you get to decide what you want to replace, then make a new sound for it. Or replace every sound in the game, if you're so inclined. Or just make random booms, blasts, pows, pew pews, zings, zomps, and zips and see what happens.

Nat (or Draf or Jack) might post something we're looking for, but generally I think its just an opportunity to update some sounds, get a bit more variety, and the like. (but that's just my impression)

Mithrandir basically hit the nail on the head, I am in need of random sounds, the more space age the better, so i can use them for various things, however, if yo feel like making a sond for something specific, feel free, though be aware it may get altered slightly in order to fit into programming restraints.

This might be a dumb question so I apologize ahead of time, but do you guys have any recomendations for sound programs were we could create such sounds? This really strikes me as fun, but I am not sure what sound program would work best. I know Drafell is a sound "guru" perhaps he could shed some light.

For sound making, you might try Fruityloops. I think that's what it's called. Costs money, but I think they have a free demo version. Not sure if it saves though with the demo version. :

Audacity will work fine for recording sounds that you make using your mouth, or anything else.. Excellent program for being free. Just make sure when you save the file, you save it to a .wav so it can be listened to. I'm sure you can find a better program, but for starters this works.

If you wish to submit "finished" effects, then it is best to provide them in 11,025 kHz 16bit mono PCM format, as this is the native format that the Medusa engine uses for in-game effects.

You can provide full 44,100 kHz 16 or 24bit stereo sounds, but they will sound substantially different when converted down in bit-rate.

As for my efforts, few idea's I threw together earlier today can be found here:

http://www.ravenwarriors.com/dsftp/Drafell/

I will update this as and when I finish more stuff.

Use Jack-online, the webhost of ravenwarriors refuses to fix the server I'm on and it's insanely slow.
