Yes, we landed on the moon. That's not what I am here to talk about.
I recently recieved a forwarded chain letter from my father that he recieved from some co-workers and they recieved from who knows whom. That Email contained roughly this information:
On August 27th, Mars will be the closest to Earth that it has been in over 5,000 years! It will appear as big in the sky as a full moon, making Earth appear to have two moons! This exciting event won't happen again for .... blah blah blah.
The first thing I did was give my father a good talking-to about being so gullible. Then, I decided to solidify my position that this was total crap by looking up the numbers in my text books and wikipedia.
Mars is roughly twice as wide as the moon. The moon sits about 240,000 miles away from earth. In order for Mars to appear equal in size to the moon, it would have to be about 470,000 miles from Earth. Mars' orbit is about 60 Million miles farther from the sun than the earth. Mars would have to drift about 59.5 Million miles closer to the sun to do what this Email claims.
If it did happen, many bad things would accompany it. The Earth would be overcome with much higher and irregular tides. Mars has a fair chance of actually hitting the Earth and then it is nothing but liquid, gas and plasma phases for all of us for at least a few thousand years.
The point is, this chain letter is pure fantasy. I looked into news releases and quickly found an article regarding this chain letter. The article states that Mars did pass the closest it has been to earth in a long time just a few years back, but this was a tiny difference from the normal and by no means a difference of over 50 million miles. This letter has re-surfaced and circulated wildly every August since that year, and each year the claims become more exaggerated.
Don't be dumb. This chain letter is eating up bandwidth on the internet and therefore making the MV lag for us all! Stop the letter! Save the MV!

XD i read it all and i bet that on what ever night it is we'll get a red moon for a night or as i think its called "the harvest moon" or somethink and proberbly some dumb @$$ proberbly said the moon is mars
