I was trying (and failing) to do a cryptic crossword this morning, and thought I'd try and make a DS one. I couldn't think of more than 10 words to include, so it doesn't all join up, but never mind.

If you're not familiar with how a cryptic crossword works, basically it means that the clues aren't literal, may include anagrams, might require reversing words, looking for words with two meanings or finding words within words.

Clues

Across

1. A tonic rug can give out a lot of spam, depending on how it's placed. (9)

4. Lisping backwards has dangers within. (3)

5. To look menacing at home with the kids. (5)

7. The confused Dean Drought has nothing to fear. (11)

9. Twisting the hay's finger gives you the twelfth. (10)

10. A guy in the centre of a boat. (10)

Down

1. Everything sounds like charged particles, making things twice as difficult for some. (8)

2. I've heard I have a view of the ocean. (3)

3. Whatever comes before the dog. (7)

6. Dyslexic and in command of a ship. (7)

7. It wouldn't be a crap desk if it was assembled correctly. (9)

8. Sounds like something in a crown could settle this dispute. (4)

Enjoy.

I agree, they all don't join up. This was an easy one to solve

Fattie, you've made a mockery of literally minutes of work...

That said, you did actually get one right, although it's in the wrong place...so I guess you didn't get one right...

I'd have given you bonus points if you'd tried to jam "Yellow-bellied sapsucker" into one of them.
