I was using it as an example.

SOUND MOVES IN SPACE HAVENT YOU SEEN STAR WARS?! OMG DID YOU HEAR THE 'BBSSSHGGGHHSSS' OF SHIPS GOING BY?!

And yeah, you all forgot the sound not moving in space thing, which ruins this idea.

......so, a projectile

yeah, yeah, I know, wierd idea.

projectile. Let's say, a kinetic slug. Fired towards an enemy ship.

time fused or impact fuse. (impact makes more sense)

releases a high frequency soundwave that would echo throughout the ship and disrupt crew activitys.

sounds possible. Maybe make it reload all your weapons.

Hey, I'm not a retard . I accounted for the "Sound traveling through space, doesn't" thing with the "manipulates a large pocket of atmosphere" thing, and that was a critter, so it's not expected to be sensical about using particle weaponry. And while you can't focus sound for more power, you can certainly just turn the volume up, to magic-scientifically stun the enemy, or something, as also stated...

Turning up the volume of the speaker/output in a vacuum is about as much use as turning up the power of a lightbulb when you have no electricity.

Sorry to correct you on this, but theoretically sound can travel through space.

You ask why?

Sound does need a carrier medium. In most cases, sound on earth travels through air or water, but basically it can travel through any substance as long as it contains atomes. A space without any atomes or other kinds of particles is called a perfect vacuum. Space doesn't meet this criteria - it is filled with lots of free molecules, mostly hydrogen, thus allowing that sound can theoretically travel through it.

So much for the theoretical side.

On the practical side: to allow sound to travel, those particles must hit each other to convey the compression. While space isn't a perfect vacuum, it is on the other hand the most perfect vacuum we discovered so far. It is possible for sound to travel through space. But it is very very very unlikely for it to travel even the shortest distance.

Yeah, so basicly, if a nuke went of next to your ear, you'd get deaf.
But since you'd also be very, very dead, that hardly matters really.

Yes!

I'm really eccentric, right?

Why think of new weapons when we have so many now that no one uses? The greater need by far, is to tweak DS's exixting weaponry, like guass guns, sabot rockets, emp mines and ewas fighters. All of these items are pretty much useless but with a few changes they can be made into viable alternatives for the standard loadout everyone uses.

1. Guass Gun
Why not make the GG a kinda poor mans core weapon? Raise both the damage and the energy usage to be above a good bit above that of the common guns(psi, pc, rail) while keeping it under the damage/energy of the weakest core weapon and of course giving it a fire rate similar to core weapons.

2.Sabot rockets
Sincee it does fire five at a time a full hit of sabot rockets should do more damage than torps. So raise the damage a bit, shorten the range and increase the reload time, after all it should take longer to load five rockets than one torpedo.

3. Emp mines
How useless are these things? A few ideas come to mind for these. First, make the emp burst from mines work through armor/shields and instead of just damaging systems, have it destroy systems(not permantly but enough where it would take awhile for it fully repair)
Second, instead of it mainly effecting systems have it effect ship's energy stores with system damage being just bonus damge. Example: a ship runs into a cluster of emp mines it would reduce ship energy to 0 and do light damage to systems.
Third, keep emp mines as they are but add a small amount of hull damage to them. I mean if all a ships electrical systems shorted out at the same time surely it would cause at least a small fire or would require some of the internal parts being replaced=hull damage
Fourth, again keep emp as they are but since all the systems should be damaged it should immobilize any ship it hits. If engines and guidance are damaged a ship shouldn't be able to move anyway.

4. Ewas/senor ships
Move them from being anti-ecm ships to scout ships. Give them a longer range and have any ship detected by them to show for the rest of the friendly faction just as if their was a player spotting an enemy. For example s station should be able to sit in the middle of a system and send out a spread of ewas ships to find where the enemys are in the system.

I beleve the right weapon name is Sonic cannon, that transmits high freq sound that rips a ship apart.

I think that would be a good name for a weapon, so all in favour of creating Sonic Cannon in next update/version say aye/yes/ok/me.

PS: i just came back from school and have the biggest headache >_<.

Hence the inclusion of a form of adhesion at the head of the projectile. Latch on, rock out. If the rocking out can do anything, at least.
